Hello! I have been crocheting for a while... more frequently in the past few years. I've made a few blankets/afghans lately using basic crocheting stitches (double/triple/shell patterns, filet patterns). Most patterns I favor have a border of 5 -10 double crochet stitches encasing the inner pattern (filet or shell). You'd think it would be easy to keep the border the same from row to row. But somehow I've been adding (inconsistently) an extra stitch! It's frustrating because I don't notice until I'm 5 rows away and realize that my work is getting wider or not keeping the right shape.
Any tips for how to avoid this without constantly counting stitches? When a pattern says "Chain 3 and turn - this counts as the first double chain" are you supposed to use that chain 3 on the next row? That seems to be where I might be adding a stitch, but I don't really know. It's frustrating to have to undo all those rows. HELP!
