You know that double-knit mitt that I was working on? Well, I had most of the thumb knit, and then had the *brilliant* idea of folding the mitt around my hand. I was making a baseball mitt! It would have fit DH, but I was using cream colour, and although he might have been willing to wear them, they would have needed washing every time he did. So... rippit, rippit, rippit! Now if I could only find my needles, I could try again with smaller ones. That's what the pattern said to do to make smaller ones, and I already went down a size! Where the heck would I hide if I were a knitting needle? We've both searched the house, and I've hidden them really well. LOL

I know about the hiding knitting needles but hopefully you will find them quickly.
I usually lose my crochet hooks as well and they usually start out right in front of me but make a quick run for it when I'm not looking.

Darlene, my crochet hooks used to do that too. I made a case for them and they never leave the basket beside my chair. But my knitting needles are way too many (I now have Mom's as well) and too long to fit in the basket. So like your hooks, they manage to hide really well. I obviously haven't found the ideal spot in the house for them yet. LOL
The first thing I would do is take the cushion out of my recliner to see if they are hiding there. I've often found lost items there along with crumbs from snacks.
I always find coins in the family room couch - but occasionally a hook or needle will hide there as well. I am not sure why everything in my house seems to think we are having a massive game of hide and seek. Last weekend as I left for the coast my rain parka did a disappearing act - when I got back on a sunny day, it was in full sight in the proper closet. I have no idea how it managed that.
Jan, I'm afraid that what I'm missing is a whole cloth knitting bag full of the needles. I have occasionally lost a needle in the chair but this time there are probably 50 needles involved! LOL
Um, snack related as well,...... I use a "Pringles" can to hold my knitting needles. Yes, I need more than one.

Oh, no! I have never done that! One at a time, or maybe all my size 4.5, but never *ALL* of them! Poor you. Hope they turn up.

I thought it was a pair of needles that you lost not the entire collection.
Hope you find them soon but remember they are probably going to be in a very odd spot.
I bought a large tackle box to have a place to store my needle collection and it's hard to misplace a box that large.

Now, I have a question for all you knitters. The pattern I have for the double-knitted mitts, calls for size 6US for men's med.

says to use a smaller needle for women and child sizes. I tried using a3 mm which is between a 2 and a 3US, and I end up with a cuff about 7 incheswide. My wrist is less than 6 inches. So if you would look at the pattern,and tell me what you think, I'd appreciate it. If I am to cast on lessstitches, then what about the increases? How many do I increase to?and howmany for the thumb? I can follow usually patterns, but I really don't knowhow to alter them.Thanks for any help you can give me.

a Curious George can that I picked up at a yard sale for the longer needles...picked up a lot of needles a while back from ebay and now can indulge in doing more than one project on same size needles..
Of course, my DH asked me why I needed so many needles - basically the same question he asks when I start looking at purses ..I tell him because! because I want to and what does it matter to him, he's not paying for it!

48 stitches on US size 6 needles makes a mitten that fits me, but I do pull the stitches tight. The k2p2 ribbing should pull it in enough to fit, and some adjustment can be made when you sew the seam, too. I hardly increase at all for the palm - really, only for the thumb - so maybe I just like looser cuffs.
Since he gives the increases in terms of repeated sequences, maybe you could just cast on to fit your wrist, and increase until you run out of stitches to increase from. I'd say do the thumb as given. It might make a looser thumb than you like, but it's not likely to be a problem, since a slightly loose thumb won't let in the cold air the way a loose cuff might.

I have used an old Black Velvet tube/can in the past... before I was even old enough to drink, thankyou. ;o) Now however I have a rectangular plastic storage box (semi-see-through) with a lid for holding knitting needles, crochet hooks, etc... and I still have some that have up and walked away to play hide and seek with me. :o/ One of these days I'll find them again and..... ah, who am I kidding, they'll still run off to play. ;o)
