Yarn Harlot

Surprise! Stephanie for Yarn Harlot fame, included Arizona on her tour. She is one very brave person being from Canada and we had just had a week of temps reaching 120F (48C). She came to city of Mesa and had her lecture at the Fiber Factory. This is the firest time I'd ever been to Fiber Factory and what a wonderful experiance it was! Every kind of yarn, fiber and fun thing you could imagine as well as books, patterns, all kinds of knitting tools and gadgets. One end of the room was filled with spinning wheels and all kinds of looms- apparently they teach weaving classes there. One wall was devoted to shuttles and all kinds of weaving and spinning supplies. The place was packed with knitters. Living in the desert, I don't personally know too many people who knit but it was great seeing all of them and all of the different kinds of projects everyone brought along to work on and show off. Yarn Harlot was very funny- what a lovely, down to earth type of person! She brought along the gorgeous Norwegian sweater she made during the 16 day knitting olympics as well as the sock in progress she always travels with. Had a great time and Stephanie autographed her new book for me- Knitting Rules. She wrote "Obssession is Normal" LOL! The owner kept the shop part open quite late so we would all have a chance to browse and purchase. I sort of behaved myself......did manage to get hold of several hanks of hand spun wool/mohair blend for only $7.00US for a bolero I'm planning to make, along with just a couple balls of wool for socks. My sister however ran right over and snatched up some balls of the most beautiful hand dyed mohair you ever saw- in a varigated rose/pink and grey combo. Show off!!! She KNEW I liked that but it wasn't *my colour*......but she- being a natural blond was made to wear it! Humphhhhh Wish all of you could have come along that night, had a great time! She came to Winnipeg last summer, so my friends & I got to see and hear her. She is very humerous, and as you say, very down to earth. I thoroughly enjoyed our evening with her. In Winnipeg she was at a local bookstore, and I got her to sign my copy of "At Knit's End".

I don't have her new book yet, but am intending to pick it up. Glad you enjoyed her!
