Please join me as a dance a jig around my basement for having completed the State Fair baby quilt!!! It is 24 friendship star blocks, the points are rather bright colors and the centers of the stars are various novelty/kiddie prints (some of which were sent by you wonderful RCTQers!).
I have 1 inch red sashing around all of the blocks and as my inner border. For the outer border, I took 1 1/2 inch strips of all the bright colors and stitched them together - roughly a 9 inchx 45 inch strip of fabric was the result. Once I had a nice rainbow, I cut it into 2 1/2 inch chunks, which were sewn end-to-end to do a repeating rainbow.
Even I am impressed with the way it turned out!!! DH said to me (and this was before the borders were out on), "Wow! I really like that one! I bet DS would like one just like it!" I suppose from one who doesn't understand the appeal of accumulating fabric that won't be used immediately, that is one of the highest possible compliemnts. DS has seen the quilt and asked if it was for him , and of course, I had to tell him no. He was a little bummed until I told him that I would make him a rainbow quilt after I did the projects that *needed* to be done. Smart little monkey....he responded by saying he *needed* a new quilt..and he's only 3!!!!!!!!!!!
So, put on your dancing shoes and tear up the floor for me! By tomorrow night, the quilt will be sandwiched and stitched together and I will have hopefully have firgured out how I am going to quilt it.
