OT Update on son

Thanks to everyone for the good prayers! Son was released from hospital after 8 days. The super virus he had was killed with a new antibiotic that runt his pancreas so he is now dependent on insulin forever, BUT thankfully, he is not dependent on a oxygen tank also. He was told that if he had contacted this virus 5 years ago, there would not have been any way to save him. Thanks again for the prayers! Barbara in SC

Barbara: Good! It is too bad he had the problem in the first place, but this is very good all things considered. You need to celebrate ... go buy yourself some FQ! PAT

that's GREAT news! I'm always just a bit concerned about the super viruses because my adult son has cystic fibrosis, which makes him, at his best, vulnerable even to the most minor viruses. cf has already damaged his pancreas without the help of a drug, but we, too, are thankful he is able to control his insulin with shots. I'm rejoicing with you.

I never saw the earlier posts so I'm catching up. I'm so glad he's out of hospital! That's great news.

I am curious about something though, and forgive me if this has been discussed already, but if he had a super "virus" why were antibiotics used at all? Antibiotics only kill bacteria, not virus'. Is it something really new?

Regardless, I'm so glad he's home!!!!!

The word super "virus" was mine. I've been using it when talking to some of my kin folks so they would understand what I was talking about. The work "bacteris" was more appropriate. We are so happy that there was something to kill it. Barbara in SC
