Quilt finished...HURRAY!

I've finally finished my king-sized string quilt - free-motion quilted on domestic machine, bound (with hand-stitching on the back, even!), and photographed as best I could. (Put on your sunglasses before taking a look.)

It was supposed to reduce my stash, but it didn't. Fabric stash mysteriously multiplies!!

It's full of fabrics with all different kinds of animals on it, so it's being called "Critters Galore."

Lovely, lovely! I'm working on a stash quilt as well - randomly pieced 6" finished blocks. I made about 60 more over the last few days. It's like sourdough bread though.... you're never truly "done" with them.... there are always a few started when you've finished a bunch and squared them up to 6.5"

Ha! You win. My sister 'thinks' my scrap quilt is dazzling; little does she know. I can't wait to show her yours. It's wonderful. Polly

Wow, thanks everybody! I wasn't sure what I was going to end up with when I started this thing! :)

It was a great practice piece for free-motion quilting, though. I still don't have consistently even stitches (no stitch regulator) but they're getting better. The quilt is 103" x 106" so it proves that you CAN machine quilt a king-sized quilt on a regular machine.

As far as quilt shops around here, the only one close enough for me to have gone to is in Holly Springs, which is off I-575 at exit 14. It's not too big, but the owners are nice and are neighbors of mine. I know there are others in the Atlanta area, though!

With blocks that small, I'd have probably never finished. Mine were 8" x10" and since I made a sketch right at the beginning so that I'd know how many of each colored center strips I'd need, and which direction they'd need to slant, at least I had a goal in mind and knew when I was finished.

Have you posted pictures of the ones you're working on?

WOW! What a beautiful quilt!! I really like how you got the colors meeting all around....really brings the quilt together.

Sorry to hear that it didn't reduce your stash, however....but who really needs an excuse to stock up just in case!

Great quilt! I have the same problem - I've made several scrap quilts lately, but my scrap bins don't seem any more empty than before!
