When I made a very small sofa throw, I found quilting very tedious, and was sorry I started long before I finished even though the stitching lines were absurdly far apart and I was taking big, clumsy stitches. Patchwork, on the other hand, is loads of fun, and I've even done it in places where it doesn't show.

If you can quilt by machine, that speeds things up considerably -- I don't like the slight ripples I get on my hat brims, nor yet the specks of white that show on the black side and the specks of black that show on the white side, but having had all my decent hats mysteriously disappear, I don't put near as much hand labor into a hat as I used to.

(Well, one of my hats didn't disappear mysteriously. It blew off my head while I was taking a walk, and I didn't feel it go because I was wearing a heavy scarf under it -- probably why it didn't cling to my head the way should. And this was the only one that fits into my purse, too.)

I admire fat quarters, but I've never felt the urge to buy one. I can always find what I need in one of my boxes of scraps.

Thanks, Michelle. It is a very cool song, although my singing voice isn't anything to brag about any time of day! And I'm just in awe of someone who had the smarts to design a quilt around it.
