Thanks, it just came in. I really appreciate it!

"I think my embroidery arm needs to be cleaned and lubed, and I will be darned if I can find out instructions on this procedure, and I will be hanged if I will drive that distance for something that simple.
During my research, I did find instructions for the Singers (XL
1000, 5000, & 6000). mumble, mumble"Does anyone have repair/maintenance instructions for the Singer XL5000/6000 machines? Not that I'm opposed to professional check-ups and maintenance, but the shop guy at the local Singer dealer is somewhat less than "professional".

This is the only thing I've seen, and IIRC, I did get it from the group "me" mentioned. I sort of figured that if I know what the part is and where it belongs, it is a major clue if something is out of whack. If you do run across something more informative, would you pass it along? Not that I am inclined to do any servicing, but I think it really helps to understand when professional service is necessary. Since I have to drive an hour or more to get to a Singer certified repair person (in Grass Valley, Ca.) that's important to me.
Okay I am confused here... I did not claim to have located the whole service manual. I did claim to have located the procedure for lubing the embroidery arm.
In the SewAmused files area, in the "SewAmused Helps" folder, there is a "Maintainence XL1000.pdf"... That pdf provides the user maintainable points of XL1000 machines. It ALSO provides lubing instructions for the embroidery "bed" for XL 5000 & 6000 machines. According to Pat, the arm maintainance is the same, except there is only 1 pad to lube, and not 2 pads.
You can also read SewAmused posts from Pat #4036, & #4061, which refer to this procedure, and the XL5000/6000.
Sorry if this caused any unintended confusion.

Also, the group is well-worthwhile subscribing to, since there are really knowledgeable people posting there, and not for personal gain. While Sue does sell her workbooks, she is not pushy about it and is helpful.
Ok, this time I located it, and have printed off the .pdf file, thanks! I was thrown off by the "XL1000" title.

I wonder if it might help for individuals in this group to send them email threatening to post our opinions of their behavior at

Watch this video a few times, it takes you step by step how to replace the gear that is made out of plastic, follow his instructions about that, here is the link, after you replace the gear, you need to time the machine, he tells you how step by step
Anyone in particular you are directing your comment to on this nearly 15-year-old thread??
Thanks for posting the great youtube link ! .. it's possible that someone might search for some info on this machine - and find that link very helpful. Good polite helpful information is always welcome - - in my world - .... even if it is in response to an old question ! John T.
