Unseen stitching repair problem

Dear All,

My favourite suit jacket has a large tear at the seams, the problem is that I can not turn the jacket inside out and fix it because the tear is covered by the lining of the jacket, while at university one of my friends fixed a similar sort of tear in a coat pocket and managed to somehow do the seam up from the inside without the stitch work being seen on the outside.

I was wondering if anyone can give me a description of how to do such a stitch or maybe direct me to a diagram, or if not tell me the name of such a stitch so I can search for it on the internet.

I understand that my explanation isn't very clear, so if you don't understand what I am on about please say and I will try to explain it again in a more coherent manner.

Please help I really want to able to sort this thing out.

Thank you very much

Abena

Why not just unpick the lining in an inconspicuous place and work from the 'wrong' side? Apart from anything else, if you have a seam rip, that's usually wear and tear, and you may need to strengthen the seam from the inside - you'll definitely need access for that.

If it is the stitching at the seam that has given way, try hand stitching with a ladder stitch. You can do this from the outside and it won't show.

Hi

Open the lining carefully with a seam ripper adjacent to the damage and look again.
