Align needle post in a Singer 500 (Rocketeer)

Hi,

does anyone know how to align the needle post in a Singer 500 Rocketeer?

Mine is misaligned such that it touches the hook with every stitch. Zing, zing, zing, zing, zing, zing, zing, zing, zing, zing, zing, zing, zing...

Thanks!

First, have you checked that it isn't just a bent needle?

If you've checked that the needle itself isn't bent, it might be worth taking it in to have it looked at. If you've broken a needle recently the needle bar may be bent. If that's the case no amount of fiddling with the needle will get it straight.

It is not the needle; does anyone know how to align the needle post? I read that it can be aligned, but haave no idea where to look.

Thanks!

The pendulum swing adjustment is via the two large screws on the backside of the machine, just behind the take up lever. O

But he is not asking for a pendulum swing adjustment.

What size needle is it you are using?

Oh..you're right, Ron...my mistake. For some reason I have zig zag adjustment in mind. Thanks for correcting.

OK, check these 2 things. With the 14 in, does the point of the needle when flush with the surface of the needle plate fall exactly center in the zig zag plate hole? both left to right and front to back.

Yes, as far as I can see with the naked eye. Is it not the needle post then?

Then that is perfectly acceptable. That is the needle guard and it is doing its job. I suggest you leave it be.
