Butternut whys and wherefores...

Hey all...

I used to love getting donuts at bakeries that were referred to as butternut donuts (better still, chocolate butternut donuts...yumm) that had a crunchy, tasty coating. What does "butternut" refer to, actual butternuts

or butternut squashor some mutant flavoring? Anyone know? Bueller? I have seen recipesfor cakes that use butternut flavoring, but I wanna make sure it's whatI have in mind. Some recipe sites seem to imply that flavoringsreferred to as "Vanilla Butter & Nut Flavoring" are the same as"Butternut Flavoring", but is this true? If the crunchy donut coatingswere actual butternuts, will "Butternut Flavoring" give me a similartaste, if not the crunchy texture?Art
