Hi everybody. I just wanted to drop in and say hi, because I actually have a free moment. Things haven't been going too great (been deployed since April 4th). There was a fire on the ship that pretty much consumed a large portion of my office and personal and professional papers, equipment, etc. We are currently in San Diego for an undefined length of time, so that's not too bad.

The quilt that I may still be able to finish and submit for the Hoffman Challenge this year smells a lot smokey, so I don't know if I'll actually be able to send it in.

I also wanted to say that I really appreciate the cards that people sent. I would have sent replies, but they were all in the office, so I no longer have the addresses and such. :(

Hi, Juli. How wonderful to hear from you. So very sorry about the fire and your Hoffman Challenge smelling smoky. Fresh air does a heap of good for smoke smell - don't suppose the Admiral would let you run the quilt up the flag pole for a while? Putting it in a plastic bag with a bar of Dial soap might do the trick. We are not needing you to reply to every card and note we send you. It is just our way of giving you a hug and letting you know that we are holding your close in our thoughts and prayers. Warm best wishes, Polly

hey, Juli!! glad you're stateside anyway!! the dial soap in a plastic bag is a good trick!! i heard ivory soap does the same thing. keep safe!!

It's good to hear from you, Juli! I'm so sorry that your office sustained such damage, but at least you weren't hurt. Maybe your quilt can be "freshened" in time to send it in -- I hope so! Take care of yourself, and thanks for your service. :)
