a proper intro? -- long

The more I read about your house the more I want to move somewhere in the south and buy a fixer upper. There are tons in Jackson Tennessee that survived that awful tornado that went through. However, that's way to close to the MIL.

Ah, yes. The MIL lives walking distance from here. Sometimes that's nice. But sometimes that is just too close.

With our history it would be way too close even though we get along for the most part. She still annoys the hell out of me and I'm sure I do her too. We are just way different styles.

Same here, actually. And ironically, the same is also true for my husband and his mother. He's adopted and is a real example of nature vs. nurture (with nature winning by a landslide). We joke about the fact that he has nothing in common with his mother other than her last name. But she was worried about being alone in old age (she's 75), so we figured, what the heck?

And you know, in some ways it's been a good thing. She can be surprisingly sweet and thoughtful at times. And of course we each have our own separate interests. That helps a lot. But most of the time? Well, let's just say 'annoy' is a nice word. So we try to live our separate lives but be there when she needs us. And so far, it seems to be working out OK.

Amazing!

Welcome Peggy.

There are a few of here that also use Metal Clay (I love it). Best of luck on the house ( sounds like a big job!)

Where were you in N. GA?

Go a little more east in Tenn - I think that's where I'm headed.

I've never been to Fitzgerald, though of course I've been to Tifton. I do like to visit the small towns around here, especially in the Spring and Fall when it's nice to take a stroll past the old houses. Maybe I'll plan a day-trip there soon...

In unincorporated Fannin county, outside of Blue Ridge, GA. We were very close to the Georgia / Tennessee / North Carolina border.

What a great intro, Peggy! I look forward to seeing any bead work, past, present or future. I'd love to see your progress on the house too but I know that'd be darned near impossible to share.

My sister was born in Tifton. In fact if we wanted to go "shopping" we went to Tifton. Real big shopping was going to the MALL in Macon :)

I haven't been there in probably close to 20 years now.

Know that area well. From Jr. High - high school grad I lived in Calhoun. It's a nice area.

Yes, wood has a certain feel to it. My walls have 12 to 18" butts, making the walls at least 10 at the thinnest.

I'd suggest that you do not re-shingle the roof. It expensive to do, expensive to maintain insurance on it, and very prone to fire (and probably wind/hurricanes too).

Actually, I'm thinking of having a new tin roof put on. I don't think that the cedar shakes have been visible for more than 80 years. They are just left up in the attic.

Kinda like the mall in Savannah is for us. Where are you now?
