AD: Just had to try some Orange on Ebay

Hi all. Another ad for my latest ebay auction. I have been hearing that Orange doesn't sell on Ebay, so true to form, I took it as a challenge. Actually, I had made these for myself, then decided that Reds and Golds would be better colors for me, so I put these up for sale. What do you think?

Very Cool Kimberly. I like the twisty stripy ones the best. Nice job.

Hi, Kim, You have two bids on your orange set, so I'd say they definitely will sell! I'm just curious, were you inspired by Ofilia's post on isgb about reclaiming orange? Some of us made and brought orange beads to the Int'l Flameworking Conference and Mike from Wale displayed them for us, along with Ofilia's explanation of what we were doing. We attracted quite a bit of attention. Patti

I think those are gorgeous!! Usually orange does nothing for me unless it's with purple or pink, but these are fabulous. I love the twisties and the disk shape. Some of them look like butterscotch candies.

Hi Patti, No, I had heard someone else say that orange didn't sell on Ebay, but it sold at shows. I had been able to sell orange beads on Ebay before, so just thought I'd try again. I really like to work with this color - so bright and happy and not as agressive or moody as red. I didn't know Ofilia had posted anything. When you were at the flameworking conference, did people like the beads, or were they sort of a curiosity? It just seems that you don't see much true orange (or bright, lemon yellow, either). Fun color to works with. One of my favorites is an ornate bicone, white or ivory, with raised twists of opaque orange cased with stiking orange. Good enough to eat!

Kim, I think people were more interested in the political statement we were trying to make. There were lots of comments about the war. But, many people just admired the beads. A lot of the students, who seem to look down a little on beadmakers, were surprised that the beads were so detailed and beautiful. Someone wanted to buy Ofilia's orange fish. But then, who woudn't? I love the disk beads, too. When I make them, I'm always worried about that edge. Because I'm not a jewelry making type person, I don't really know if that kind of edge is a problem (with cutting SoftFlex or whatever) so that's why I never include them in my sets. Thoughts?

That orange set kicks ass! You've inspired me to touch a couple of my rarely-used colors today, one of which will be orange, for sure!

Which edge do you mean, exactly? The part at the hole? Or the outer rim? ~~ Sooz

yeah, that's why all my disc attempts end up being rounds instead - I can't get a decent pucker at the hole....

The hole edge. It's not sharp, exactly, but it doesn't have the gently rounded profile that puckered lampwork beads have.

Despite what I have heard, orange is always a good seller for me. It's such an utterly scrumptious color, and rather than screaming "hurry". which is what some people get out of it, to me it shouts "summer fruit!" If you have any of the translucent yellow, it's incredible encased with transparent orange... like a magic persimmon.
