AD kinda.... Taking color requests

Wow - lots of great responses!! Before we get too much into this, I need to tell you all about a few things I won't do, so that you won't be disappointed when I don't have a set in what you asked for.

I don't do organics - hardly ever. There are plenty of artists who do, and are really good at it. I like geometrics and that's what I am good at. I do swirls and such - but that's about as organic as I get. :)

I don't use metallics - no silver, gold, copper - unless it is already in the glass I am using (like copper green for instance). This is mostly because of safety reasons - my studio is in my home and not separated enough from the rest of the house, so it's not safe to have that stuff in the air. I have a mask, but the kitties and hubby do not. I don't use frits, powders and enamels for the same reason.

That being said, I don't use ivory very much, and I don't ever do silvered ivory. I am not fond of the effects of the ivory for some reason. On occasion, I will, but not very often. Same goes for dark turquoise.

I also don't do animal print beads, dichro, encased florals (very often), bicones, cones, vessels, fish, frogs, or sculptural beads (other than raised florals and tabs and hearts) - mostly because there are a plethora of artists out there who do these way better than I, and I am not in love with doing them.

I encase occasionally, and have to really want to do it. Most of the time, it's for color effect. I rarely use much basic blue, basic yellow and basic green - I like the off colors more. So you won't see much cobalt or kelly from me, although I will make exceptions from time to time.

My favorites are raised florals, scrolling beads, layered dots of all kinds (twisted and not twisted) and hearts. I am beginning to really like making cubes and rectangular cabs as well.

Oooookay - commence with the requests. :) I am taking notes and have already made some beads. I am going to go down the list of color combos and requests all week long, so if you don't see what you posted right away, don't worry. :)

That's the day before my daughter's birthday. She'll be 14 this year. My oldest will be 16 on the 11th of this month. Ugh, teenagers!

Send 'em off to Auntie Kath. I love teenagers, and usually have a bunch of them all over the house. I talk to 'em, teach 'em to drive, and just let them hang out. I'm really strict with the rules, though, and one time I had to send a child home after she said, "You're not my mother, I don't have to listen to you!"

No, but it is my home, and I put up with nothing. She's been back here many times since then and has never been anything other than a sweetheart.

Sweet Teenager Story: Last winter, I broke my neck and had to endure a spinal fusion. I spent a week in the hospital, and a couple of months laid up. A group of middle school kids I know saved their lunch money for a couple of weeks, pooled it, and sent me a gorgeous bouquet of flowers to cheer up my bedside. The card was signed by so many kids I couldn't make out all the names.

Nowadays, I go to the school and before I'm actually in the door, I have at least two big, tough-looking football player type kids at my side. I get one boy on each side, holding my hands so I won't fall, at least one more kid carrying my stuff from the car, and another always goes to fetch me a Diet Coke. The kids worry that the chairs in the auditorium would be uncomfortable for me, so they go get a cushioned chair from the teacher's lounge for me.

If I have to go in the wheelchair, the kids fight over who gets to push me; and the aforementioned tough guys pick up the chair and carry it up and down the stairs.

Tomorrow is the Sterling beginning of the year Open House. Between DD and me, I think I've heard from a hundred people checking to make sure I'll be there, and seeing if I need help with transportation.

Oh yes, the kids took my cell phone and programmed all their own phone numbers into it, so I can reach them on the fly. :-)

by the way, the set i made with those beads sold for $400. it was to my mom, and we are relocating so it only sort of counts, but she said she thought it was worth it, and the beads were of course such a major part of that. if anyone wants to see pics of the set (necklace, bracelet, earings, ring) i will be emailing them to kandice as soon as i get up to see my mom again and take pics of them, and then maybe she'll put them up on her website? :)

]Sweet Teenager Story:

VERY SWEET. good to know they are helping keep an eye on you!

teenagers can be wonderful, given the chance.

of course, sometimes they can also *seem* to be demons from hell.

Oh, that is so sweet! It's wonderful that these kids feel this way about you. So many these days don't respect people who are kind and care about them. How awesome that there's mutual caring and respect there!

I don't know why, but kids love me. I love them right back, and find them very interesting.

They'll appreciate it some day. My parents used us children to relay their hatred for one another, and each one badmouthed the other. It took us years to straighten out our relationships with them in our minds. You're doing the right thing.

At first I didn't. Now after seeing so much with them I appreciated them and the work involved to achieve them. With that said, I like subtle bumps, not the kind that look like nipples.
