Bead Insanity (and not in a good way)

I'm glad you are about to kick out doctors. Dan is at the same point with my pain management doc. It's good I guess because once the docs get complacent and things don't work for you the docs don't seem to want to do anything else.

I loved your story about the cookout and the kids. A teenage girl or boy is always going to be embarrassed but at least the boys took care of you. I felt bad for Manda but such are things in life. At least she wasn't teased about anything else.

I am so glad to hear this, and I am so glad that Bob is a "fightin' man". My MIL just sits back with her broken bones and pain (Osteo). She and my FIL will not fight the doctors to get proper care. They are of the generation that the doctors and HMO are god. I hate to be so powerless, but it seems to be their decision.

Ah CRAP. Why is it that all the doctors know you *need* pain meds but none of them will prescribe them? What is that? What a load of crap, Kathy, I'm sorry. :(

It is because of the DEA and John Ashcroft. They have declared war on pain docs who Rx narcotics. They lost the real "drug war". The best pain doc here was arrested for overprescribing pain drugs and causing patient deaths. They actually charged him with manslaughter-state & feds.

Bob is going to have a "come to Jeebus" talk with the primary care doc tomorrow, since he's supposed to be directing my care. We'll see where that goes. I ought to call the insurance company and see what they have to say: the lidocaine patches I have to wear cost $600/month and don't do a whole lot, and proper pain meds would be a small fraction of the cost.

If nothing else, I'd think they'd want to save a few bucks, and they might have one of those chronic condition centers to help treatment and control costs. I know they have one for asthma - I went once and the nurse practitioner sent me home because I knew more about the condition than she did. :-X (I wasn't "invited" to the sleep apnea group)

Thank you guys for all the support. It means more than you can know. And -- I made a necklace for the Queen today. She received some incredible anonymous beads with her name on them, and wanted the beads made into a "Y" necklace for the first day of school. I mentally designed the necklace (as I always do), and sent the child to go get the "ingredients" from the bead storage drawers. Then we sat together and she kept me concentrating while I made her necklace. It came out beautifully, but she wants me to keep the photos under wraps until the first day of school.

One of the statistics on the site says over 40% of adult Americans have some sort of chronic pain, but most do not seek treatment until it is crippling.
