An RCBer and a Bead Show (Pictures!)

Oh boy did we get into trouble today!

Kathy (KDK) came down last night, and we went to the Intergalactic Bead Show in Atlanta (actually, NE of Atlanta, not too far from where I live) today! I think I get into even more trouble when I have an accomplice who encourages me!

We got there about 10:30, only stopped after 2pm to meet hubby and DD, and then DD accompanied us for the last couple of hours and spent her whopping $27 that she'd been saving on treasures.

I was mostly looking for some 4mm and 6mm stones for wire bracelets, but I also got some inexpensive stuff to use as "filler" for necklaces. Here's a pic:

Kathy and I had seen all these big flat beads, and wondered what the heck you do with them. Kathy prefers small things, and I kept telling her that the bigger stuff grows on you and, "Just wait a year or so, when you're holding a huge cab or bead in your hand saying, 'That's not too big!'" Well, towards the end of the show, this one booth had these gorgeous bracelets made with these big flat stones, and it was like, "So that's what you do with them!" I'm not sure I have the right bali for them, so I may not be able to make them until later, but I had to buy some:

Now I could kick myself for not taking a picture of Kathy and I to share with you all. We had a great time, and I think I'm on a bead high now. DD has even said she'd like to save up $100 for the next bead show! And the guys where she bought most of her stuff kept giving her that "cute kid" discount! ("Oh, it's $5, but I'll just charge her $ for that, oh, and for this one too.") It's not fair! I'm the cute kid's mother, so I should get a discount too!

Oooh, I love the ocean jasper!

I opted for Nashville (well, Smyrna, actually) and the Bead Mercantile Show instead. Lawrenceville is not quite as convenient as Marietta was, and the last IBS in December was a bit disappointing. But if I'd known RCB cronies were going to be there ....

The Bead Mercantile Show was small and three vendors bailed, including Crystal Beads of Boston. Crystal Beads was a major reason I opted for Nashville instead of Lawrenceville, so I was disappointed.

Nonetheless I manages to spend money like a drunken beader ...which I wasn't, but not for lack of trying. We broke for lunch at the Ruby Tuesday's next door. "What's the house chardonnay?" says I to the waiter. "Good," he said. "Very good." "No, what's the brand?" "I don't know. I'll go ask." He scurries off and comes back and says, proudly, "Chablis. That's the house chardonnay."

I know where Hoschton is, my DH and I looked at some big old houses there, thinking how fun it would be to fix one up, there are some pretty ones, but then the movie "Money Pit" kept playing in our heads...

Anyway, I am in Woodstock, grew up in Gwinnett Co. and my parents now live out between Loganville and Madison.

I have been here in Ga. for all but 6 of my 41 years, and DH was born and raised here! So there is more information than you ever wanted to know...

BTW, I enjoyed looking at all of your pictures, you got some neat things yesterday!

Lol! Hubby and I both got a kick out the your "chablis" story!

Yep, Marietta's not as convienient for me, so I was really happy to hear the show moved!

I know what you mean! Our house is about 13 years old and it seems like we always need to do something around here. I can't imagine taking on an old house unless you just didn't have a life, or else had a lot of money to HIRE someone else!

Glad you liked my pictures!

Well, maybe next time we can meet up there! I keep telling myself that I'm going to have to limit myself to going to the show once a year instead of both shows! Yeah, right!

The new location is about 30 minutes from my house. I heard one of the vendors say there's been over 2000 people admitted on Sat., so maybe it worked out good for them!
