I'm back! AND new bracelet...AND where can I find....?

Hi all,

Hubby, DD, and I took an overnight trip to Charleston, while he was on vacation this last week. Fri., I spent the day with a wire friend, and he and DD went to the Aquarium and to the IMAX.

My friend, Lynn, taught me how to make these bracelets that she does. Her hubby recently took up lampwork, so we were going back and forth with wire and beads, while I was teaching him some techniques. I can't think of a better way to spend the day! What fun. I wish I had a few people close by to sit and do wire or beadwork with!

Anyway, here's the bracelet I made out of jade stones:

Thanks Kandice!

Yes, I've been looking under square cabs, cabochons, cabachons, jewels, tiles........... I'm about to go up and play with the kiln and see if I can make some glass ones I like!

I guess I'll have to hunt around for someplace that sells them. Oval cabs would work too.

I really like that bracelet!

For stone cabs, I think looking under lapidary would be your best bet. If you have a Lapidary Journal, I'd check some of the advertisers in it.

And yes, glass cabs would be beautiful. But since the nature of fused glass is that it tries to draw itself up into a round ball, it might not have good enough corners. I think fused glass is also cut (with some sort of saw?) and then refired briefly (as in fire polish), but I've never seen how that's done.

Glass will draw up on itself only at full fuse for an extended time period. Cut it the size you want. If you want to fuse 2 layers (as in putting a layer of clear over dichro), cut a tad smaller. Keep an eye on it as reaches fusing temp. Crash cool to annealing temp. as soon as the 2 layers join. Don't let the sides round out. Done that way, no band saw, no need to firepolish. Well, I made some tonight and have started working on my 2nd bracelet. And yes, I watched them carefully to get them to the point where the edges rounded, but the squares didn't!
