N.Y. Bead shopping and some new earrings

Hi all,

We just got back from visiting my sister in Ct. It was a whirlwind trip, with daytrips every day to N.Y.C., Bridgeport beach a couple of times, Block Island, R.I., and Rhinebeck, N.Y. for an air show. (Hubby's part of the trip.)

We took the train in to N.Y.C. for some bead shopping, and since my b-i-l was working, hubby decided to go with us. Silly Man! He didn't actually believe that we girls could spend about 7 hours bead shopping! (And that was with a 12 yr. old with us!)

It was overwhelming, and with the trip, I didn't have a lot to spend, but here's my stash:

Oooooooo, the possibilities. Before I left, I was in the mood to make some dangly earrings and I cruised the net for ideas. I kept seeing peacocks, so I got out some graph paper and tried to draw some from some of the ones I looked at. These earrings are 3" long, and I don't usually wear something that big, but I may have to:

Then I played with some of the Indian designs and made this pair. These are much smaller and something I would wear everyday:

And Spike was more than ready for his mom to come home! It took about a day for him to settle down. Every time I'd look at him, he'd start wiggling all over. Lol.

And now to catch up on posts and what's been going on around here!

Jerri, What a great stash!! Tell us where you went - the 37th-38th Street Bead District or further downtown, Broadway & 26th or so? I noticed the last time I was in the flat iron district that there were several new bead stores. A great trend!! Glad you had a great time! Bead shopping is such fun.

Yes, that was the area. The only one I remember the name of was York, but I'd have to look at my receipts to tell you the others. I want to do it again with more money to spend!!

I forgot to tell you how much I like your earrings. Are the second shorter ones ladder stitch? They look like something I might be able to learn. I'm so beadweaving challenged, lol.

Just WOW to the shopping trip. Now those earrings would go great with The amulet purse I made with a Barbara Elbe kit. Peacock from India. Shirley

Oh, no! You mean there's more? Next time I have to check out the Broadway area? I'll have to tell my sister. Lol

Thanks! The 2nd earrings are brick stitch. I start at the middle and work towards one end and then go back and work towards the other. They're really easy.

Thanks, Shirley! Is your peacock on your site? I looked up Barbara Elbe, and you're right. It does look like hers. I really like her site! I printed out one of the free patterns. (The Angel)

It is not on my own and I am not sure if it is on the one Valerie did for me. I will check. If it isn't I will put it on mine. Shirley

Thanks. It gets a lot of admiration when I am wearing it. The plain white back is a bit of a bore to do. It seemed to take forever. Shirley

Awwwwww, thanks! I'm just addicted to it all and keep trying different things.

I may have to give the beaded collar idea some thought for my Spikey boy!

It's probably a good thing I don't do bead embroidery, or Butterbean would be the only guinea pig around with beaded dresses!

I bet that would be cute too.
