I saw that! It's from someone really famous in the lampworking world, though.

Tina, Could you post a link for this or tell us which lampwork artist it is? Thanks,

It's gorgeous.

She says that she is listing it so high because she wants to draw attention to her other auctions and help build up her business. I don't think she really expects that someone will pay $5,000.00 for it, it seems to be more like a publicity stunt. Apparently she made the base and Lucio Bubacco made the figure, during a class she took with him. I say why not, if it works for her :) I'd love to have the bead.

Somehow, I would think a $5000 bead could be shipped for free. :-)

HAW!!! And since there are no bids on any of her other auctions, it doesn't look like it worked too well.

No Becki, it doesn't seem to be working. But then, I don't think that showing someone elses bead is the way to build a reputation for yourself. There's just no way around doing the work, being consistant, always visible, building slowly and eventually, if people like your work and the way you run your business, you'll build a following. I guess she will learn that through this experience maybe.

I also meant to add that, if I were trying to sell a bead for $5,000.00, I would definitely clean the bead release out of the hole. I could be wrong but it sure looks like the bead release is still in there :/

Lol. It was a clever idea.

Yeah, I think it backfired. I think people got mad about the price, and didn't even bother scrolling down to read her explanation. Some of her other beads are nice, but not a single bid -- you're right.

I think the $2.00 shipping fee makes it funny, though. :)
