I met Marisa2!

She is such a nice person and I'm happy that I was able to spend a couple of hours in her company. We met at a library which hosts a very friendly and informal group of beaders for "Beaders' Day Out". I really would have liked to spend the day there, next time I will.

Even though I'm not a teacher I showed Marisa and another lady how to make a beaded wire clasp. Marisa is no slouch, she took to wire work like a duck to water! I gave her a couple of Harry's shells and hopefully next time we'll wire them. :=))

It was a great way to spend the morning. Not only did I get to meet Marisa but I've found a group of ladies that I like enough to want to meet up with on a monthly basis. I just hope they don't ask me to show them how to make clasps every month!

It was really fun to meet Margie too :)

Margie, I know this sounds dumb but I would never in a million years have figured it out form the diagrams in the book... I need someone to show me and then correct me while I do it once or twice or three times before I can understand anythign that involves manipulating physical objects :)

The "Beader's Day Out" group is really fun! I think this would be a good idea for anyone who has been feeling uninspired or who wants to get out more. Basically, the library gives them a room once a month. Everyone brings snacks to share along with any project they would like to work on and anything they would like to show. Then everyone sits around and talks or walks around to see what everyone else is doing. A lot of informal teaching went on. Some people really got work done on their pieces, others mostly socialized. I got lots of design help on something I was working on after Margie left.

One of the ladies collected a book of patterns and instructions, mostly printed off the web. Someone (maybe the same person?) collected a book of pictures from previous get-togethers. Sometimes they do more formal outings. Last month, someone brought PMC and a kiln. Participants gave $90 whcih covered materials, and she tought everyone to use them. Several people brought in what they made this month. Margie and I were so disappoitned that we were one month late for that! Next month they are doing an informal retreat.

Margie, I think the only way to avoid shoing how to make clasps next time is not to come and sit there making them :)
