I 'met' someone! - OT

OMG. I have connected with a glass person practically here in my own backyard! She responded to my post at WC! about looking for an assistant. We emailed a few times, she sent me her resume and stuff. Then we talked on the phone forever last night. She's coming to the house Friday, and we are BOTH so excited to meet!

You guys might have noticed that I'm not exactly a "color inside the lines" kind of glass grrl. I am always looking for a new twist... for a way to push the envelope. So is this person! It was like talking to ME on the phone! LOL!

I'm practically giddy here!

I don't want to jinx anything, but I think this could be the start of a glorious friendship! Personally, I think she is WAY too experienced to be my assistant. She insists otherwise. But at the VERY least, we both will now have someone to hang out with! And go to Glass Axis with! And MELT STUFF WITH! And she's into crucibles, and embedding cool stuff in glass, and trying things that people say you can't do, and she's dying to do electroforming, and she's BRAVE and UNAFRAID and, and, and.

Ok. I'll stop now. I can't wait until Friday!

This is like the day the world started turning right for two posts in a row! Woo hoo! Happy for you, wish I lived there! I would love to find someone here who wanted an apprentice/gopher. I'd do it for the knowledge.

Yeeha! Even if the working relationship doesn't synch up the way you need it to, this could have a tremendously stimulating effect on your work. More power to both of you!

Tink -- HIRE HER. I am way too experienced for most jobs, and it just makes me good at the ones that I take. I know that sounds conceited, but it is true. I have way too many talents to be in the job that I currently have. However, it adds so much to the job and neither I nor my employer would change it for the world. It is a special relationship to have. HIRE HER.

I am thrilled for your good luck!!!!!!!!!!

I have to tell you guys though... Her work is breathtaking. Seriously astounding. I feel awkward having HER as MY assistant. She has studied under many of the greats, and has SO much experience... Her florals leave me speechless.

Maybe you should think of it in terms of an eventual partnership after a few years. In the meantime, cross-fertilization is the name of the game!

Hot damn! I suspect you've posted details by now, but just want to say immediately how glad I am that you found a good 'fit', and that your instincts about this have been verified F2F.

I'm so excited about getting started with her! I have my Big Presentation Meeting next Thursday re: the funding, but she will be working for me no matter what happens with that.

I think I'll be starting her out at five hours a week.

Now that my first class is over, I've found my assistant and Kathy has headed home, I think I'll be hitting the torch tomorrow!!! I feel incredibly inspired, and am SO ready to get back to work. I gotta make some money if I want to be able to pay my assistant, right? LOL!
