beaded cross pattern

I am looking for a way to make a small beaded cross for my son to wear on his dog tags while he serves over in Iraq. I'm thinking maybe using headpins or something similar. Any ideas? TIA hc

no ideas here - though the headpin idea might work - give it a try!

Best wishes for your son and all the other troops over there. I wish they could hurrry up and come home.

Yup. I'd make it out of Right Angle Weave in 11/0 seed beads or 3mm round "Austrian Crystals." Four rows of RAW makes a wonderful rectangular tube that can hold a tiny momento (maybe a tiny bit of "home soil," or a drop or two of holy water) An automotive tube fuse makes a terrific tiny bottle. Take off the top metal piece, remove the metal strand, fill it with what you want, then glue the top back on.

I'd use a sterling silver jump ring to attach it to the dog tags, maybe two, for extra strength.

vj found this in rec.crafts.beads, from "heppiechik" :

for the kind of wear/stress it may get, i'd probably beadweave it instead, with Fireline. it will be MUCH sturdier that way.

and i THINK WAJ has some made of silver wire.
