Beaders' Prefs update please OT

We sure have a lot of newbies here of late! Welcome, all.

Please answer these questions, below, if you plan to be around here more than just a day or two. We refer to these for information year round.

Please keep it brief and to the point (no rambling), don't use abbreviations, and try to use correct grammar and spelling as much as possible. I will thank you from the bottom of my heart. These are posted on BeadersHaven on Yahoo:

Look under FILES. The info will allow people to choose the right BFNR for you, if you're going to get one. Or if you become good pals with someone here, they can craft you the right kind of birthday present for you. Stuff like that. >THERE ARE NO GUARANTEES<

Favorite Colors: Please also list colors you hate.

Favorite Treat to Eat: If it's chocolate, please please please: Milk or dark?

Favorite item of Jewelry & Size: For instance, if you like Bracelets best, let us know your WRIST size. If you like necklaces, your preferred necklace length. Etc.

Personal Style: Do you tend to wear jeans all day every day? Or slinky black dresses with long slits up the leg? You know, just give an idea.

Favorite Kind of Bead: Seed beads? Great honkin' wooden things? Swarovski and nothing but Swarovski? Give a quick overview.

Anything else?--- For instance, Carol is hideously allergic to newsprint. So we don't want to send her anything wrapped in newspaper. ~~ Sooz

Sooz, I (after finally joining..somehow this fell off my TDL) can't find a folder with a heading for this, under Files. Am I just missing it, or does this go under Bios, or what?

BFNR means Beads For No Reason -- also know elsewhere as RAK (Random Act of Kindness). It's sending a present to someone for no real reason -- such as a birthday, which *is* a real reason. We have a tendency to do BFNRs here. ~~ Sooz

Sooz, I don't remember if I did one. I didn't see my file but the questions were familiar. Probably forgot. The mind is the second thing to go! JanG

Hi Sooz (and everyone else), I don't know if you have my beader's preferences. I'm having major computer problems and can't access the file at beadershaven. I can't download anything, from anywhere! It also takes an average of 60 to 70 seconds between newsgroup messages, as well as my regular e-mail, so I don't catch everything that's going on. Bitch..., moan..., groan. So anyhow, can you let me know if I need to answer any questions? Many thanks. Carlinda

Carlinda, I've got your preferences -- no need to redo them. Thanks, dearie. I'm sorry about your computer problems. They sound incredibly frustrating -- I'd probably throw the damn thing out the window if it were me! :-(

Thanks, Sooz, for checking for me. Yes, this computer is very frustrating right now. I think it's pretty close to crashing. So I'm trying to save what I can, but I'm going to lose a bunch of stuff I need for my website and my music business. Sigh. Such is life. At least I don't have the considerable physical difficulties most of you all here have. I'm very grateful for that. Carlinda

Sounds like you might be infected with Sasser or one of its variants. Go here for a quick check by Microsoft for infection:

If that comes up clean, then you also might be overloaded with spyware/adware. Seems to be an increasing problem right now. I downloaded SpyBot some weeks ago and was appalled at how much had gotten through my Symantec Internet Security program! HTH!!
