Can someone please explain?

I usually don't go back to my stringer either - but more because I don't know what color it was for sure... :-) (I have great intents when it comes to organization, not always the follow-through.) But twisties - heck, I STILL can't make a decent one... they're always wayyy too skinny, and not evenly twisted. Put together a set of just those and I'd buy them, even if I didn't know for sure what colors they were. :-)

Get some narrow labels, write the name of the color on one, then wrap it around the stringer like a mini flag, and you'll never wonder what color it is again:) Since you gotta clean the glass before you use it anyways, any sticky residue will come right off.

LOL! That seems like a great idea in theory, but stringer is used up so fast, that it's hardly worth the time and effort to be so organized about it. And there are so many of them, it would take an hour for me to do that, every day! :)

And you can't store the stringer with the rod it was pulled from either?

Yes, I could, and probably should. I keep my glass in tackle boxes (Walmart, each case holds 4 boxes, each box has 4 partitions in it, 13" long by about 2 inches wide)... since I have to keep the glass covered up as I'm in the garage. Just never want to put the delicate stringer in there, seems like it would get broken (and hard to fish out once it falls in between the rest of the glass rods.) So I keep it in the ice tube trays that were recommended on here... then of course it all has to be wiped off to use (one of the reasons it never gets used...) Like I said, lack of organization. :-)

I loooooove my ice tube trays! I have one for Moretti stringer and one for Gaffer/Bullseye and I keep it all sorted by color. The problem is the ones that aren't struck. Of course I could probably put them in the kiln after I've pulled them to make 'em strike, but that would make wayyyyyy too much sense!

Does it have to be wiped off because of accumulated dust? Or is it just dirty to begin with?

If dust: Drape a cloth over the storage to keep dust out.

Well, not really - not with my current storage system. Takes time to sort, and there's a chance it could get broken. I keep my stringer in a jar by the torch for easy access. It works for me. Stringer is used up so fast that taking any time to sort it, label it, etc. is just time wasted. This is just my system. Other people may be different. :)

They are all in the same container. I usually only make enough for one session, and if there are any stringers left, they go in the jar next to the torch.

You guys don't understand - I use a whole stringer on each bead, usually - especially if I am scrolling. It would be a waste to label containers or the stringers themselves - that takes up a lot of time. I just pull 20 or so in a session, use them, then put the one or two left over in the jar. If I had a jar for each color, there would be over 100 jars with maybe one stringer in each one.

I use the ice tube trays also and keep a few rods plus whatever stringer is left over after a session. I have them all labeled by color. You can see them here:

I can't find any of those dang ice cube trays. I've searched everywhere. In fact for my birthday today we went in search of them again. Nada. Grrrrrrrrr.

I have the same system you do. I am still trying to find those ice cube trays with the thought of keeping like stringer in one tray. I don't know if it will really work for me though. It's worth a try.

I pull stringer fairly often....it's just fun to do and I tend to stockpile it because I rarely have a plan when I sit at the torch so it's good to have ready on a whim. I use the ice tubes and sort by color.
