Can someone please explain?

That looks great, Lori! The ice cube tray thing is a good idea.

Yep - the ice cube tray thing could work - I would have to make room on my table for them, but it's definitely an idea and would keep things more organized.

See Kathy N-V. See Kathy N-V fall and knock thousands of dollars worth of glass on the floor. See Lori regret ever having allowed Kathy N-V near her glass. Cry, Lori Cry.

Seriously, I'm so clumsy that we have pretty much everything protected in some way, so I can't fall into and knock it over. So my first thought was "Wow, I'd be afraid of knocking that over." My second thought was "That's the cleanest artist's studio I've ever seen!"

You are to be commended, for both your grace and your neatness.

dearest gods. me, too. i'm working on Oran to spend time sorting out the studio. unfortunately, every time i try i find that there are tools used for wax that i also use for other things . . . . and when i'm making things i tend to have tools everywhere. even on my own desk.

**sigh** and he laughs when i get frustrated. but we both do it. part of it is the ADD -- i see too many possibilities. makes me nutz!

I'm a lot like Lori when it comes to my work area. I just can't work if it's not neat. I even put all the glass away from color combos before I begin a new set. It drives one of my friends nuts. I drive more folks nuts by how clean I keep the glass. It goes in the dishwasher upon arrival. Then into storage containers. Then they all get a bath each time before use. Period. My stringer does too.

that's part of the problem i'm having, too. i need to know exactly where things are and that they are going to be there when i reach for them. unfortunately, when i'm actually doing the work, things tend to wind up all over the place, as Oran pointed out to me the other day. Grace used to follow him around and put everything back where it belonged, but she hasn't been able to do that for some time now. the results are unreal. after Oct 2 & 3, we're going to be doing some MAJOR cleaning. if necessary, i may have to buy duplicate sets of tools. because the ones for wax work [at one bench] are overlapping with the ones for silver work [at a different bench] and overlapping with the soldering [at another bench]!!!!

I'm a semi-neatfreak. While I'm working, it can turn into total chaos, with ends and stringer all over the place. But when I stop, the last thing I do is put the ends in a pile and sweep off the table. I had a glass shard in my elbow for over a month before I finally got it out, and I don't want to repeat that. So, I sweep. And I wash the towels that I have on my armrests every week.

Of course, the other issue I'm dealing with since I'm outside is the never-ending DUST. And when the duststorms come up, arrrrgh! Have I mentioned I can't wait to be inside?

Interesting thing...the wind literally whistles through my ice-tube-stringer tray.

arrrrrrgh! the bane of my existence - the dirt road downwind from my windows - about 20 feet away!

Wow. I, too, am mystified... I'm like you in that I generally pull new stringer every time I need some, so I have a huge Mason jar full of the stuff.

Maybe I should auction it! :)

Karen, I've started doing that with my copper red stringers that I use for my hibiscus flowers, and also... maybe this seems sooo obvious but I got frustrated not knowing which stringers were reduction stringers (and that's not a mistake you want to make) so it finally occurred to me to reduce the ends. Now I know!

I have the same "system". Jar by the torch, all mixed up together.

It would be faster to throw it away and start new than to organize it.

Anything with black, no white anywhere, purples, pinks, greens, ambers, teal on occasion, red once in a great while. No primaries (red, yellow, blue together). I love tertiary colors together, and some secondary colors. Fall colors, as long as they are saturated. No ivory. No turquoise, no coral unless it's the orange one. No powder or tongue pink. You can get a good idea by looking at the gallery on my website. :)
