Carbon Steel Pick Question

I don't know about the differences in steel types. But don't forget to cool your pick or pliers in water as you work. If the metal starts heating up the glass will stick. Molten glass will stick to anything which is why the mandrels and kiln shelves have to be coated. Good Luck, Connie Ryman Cryman Studio

I should have mentioned that in class Jackie showed us to keep dipping our pick in water and yes I'm doing that, but BOY what a difference between the dental pick and the one I picked (haha) up at Home Depot. I don't know if maybe those things age and lose their whatever, but the carbon steel one I'm using now is awesome. Tonight I was doing a little red bead with white hearts for my DD and in one I kept it in a bit long and it only stuck the tinest bit. Was almost easy to get out.

Hmmmmm my curved stainless steel dental pick is my secret weapon! I use it for everything, including my flower petal creases. The trick is to keep it cold. I dip it in water and wipe on a towel after every few uses and it works fine. I like stainless steel because it doesn't leave any little rust or dirt marks in the glass when it's used. I am not sure about carbon, I have never tried it.
