Crashed computer

My computer crashed a few days ago. So I'm writing this from my husband's computer via Google. Maybe it will get me accustomed to using Google and I'll use it while I'm gone South.

If the problem is lack of a news server, I subscribe to about 3 freebie ones. The best is Motzarella and I have used it for a couple of years. Have a look at the website....

Another is "aioe.org".....haven't got the link handy. A lot of the big ISP's are dropping Usenet (news groups), so rather than hassle with Google or pay per month, I use the above. Works pretty darn well and the tech support is excellent as well. Cheers.....Heather

I've been using Google for years, and I don't see much hassle there.

I think the thing I dislike about Google is that there is not a "tree" format to conversations/threads, so it's harder to get a cohesive picture. Of course I'm sure part of that is that I'm not on my own computer and don't want to put my preferences on Pete's computer.

Meanwhile, my problem has gotten worse. Geek City called to tell me they were able to retrieve my information, but that my computer is tweaked and obsolete. So it would cost almost as much to make the computer useable (and still obsolete) as to replace it.

And Pete and I had already decided that we need a more comprehensive plan of action for "communications". We can't get cable or mini- satellite reception here, but we can download movies and TV on line. We also have phone reception problems. But we can get DSL. And we would like to have our info when we travel. So we figured that the next up-grades we'd get would be 1) a lap top, 2) wireless, and 3) a flat screen, and finally replace the second computer. We're not doing AutoCad or fancy games so we shouldn't need anything top of the line, and these incremental changes should be affordable.

But this is a bad time for it with the expenses of the wedding and the trip. So I'll get the data from my computer. On a hard drive, I think. And I'm not sure how I'll be able to access it. Then I'll limp along for a couple months until I can replace the computer. Meanwhile I can access RCB from Google, transfer my addresses to Yahoo (my back up eddress), get my "real" address mail on it's website, and maybe I'll spend more time with beads and less on the web.

And then I hope to get a web site up again.
