Drilled Faceted stones

Hey all, my business is mostly loose gems but I also sell a lot of beads. I am constantly having people ask me whether I can drill faceted stones that I have for use as beads so I got to thinking that I may send 10,000p. or so to Jaipur to have them drilled.

What do you think about this as end users? The process is not horribly difficult or expensive (although it is time consuming) I just don't want to put up a bunch of money to have it done and then find no interest.

why don't you check out the beads category on ebay for the types of stones that you intend to drill, and make up your own mind?

Oh my gosh! Are you suggesting they do educated research? ----Oh, anything but that! That would actually entail work! ~~ Sooz

I have done other research, this would be considered part of that research. And for the most part, what I would be doing does NOT exist right now, there are fully faceted briolette etc but not much in the way of regular faceted stones that have been drilled.

Can you expound a little more on what it is you'd be drilling? Are you talking about sapphires, rubies, etc. or are it it something else you're thinking of?

A price point would help as well. For example, SoftFlex has some neat gemstone-in-gemstone beads on their website. But to me, the price per bead is way out there. It would make for an awfully expensive necklace by the time I would be done.

You must not visit the same sites I do - I've seen plenty of round, teardrop, emerald cut and heart shaped stones drilled with holes. MiGem is currently having a big fall sale, and she has loads of different shapes in semi-precious and gem quality stones.

I recently bought some fully faceted ruby rondelles that had holes for beading, and made a necklace from them. The vendor gave me plenty of choices of strands of beads.

Off the top of my head, I can think of at least four other sites that carry faceted semi-precious and gemstone beads. All are on Dr. Sooz's bead list.

What are "regular faceted stones" as opposed to "fully faceted briolette, etc".
