After looking through Karen Cernik's post yesterday, recommending the Eternal Egypt site, I have totally changed my mind on my World Bead Tour stop in Egypt. Of course, the broad collar I had been planning is more than half done, and I'll finish it, but won't be as worried about making it authentic.
But I've found something else: a cuff bracelet that is not only gorgeous, but can be interpreted in modern materials. Here's the link:

Since I am not incredibly wealthy, I bought sheet copper to mimic the gold on the bracelet. I am going to weave it instead of threading on wire, since I believe it will work better for my purposes. I'll tool the copper to reflect hieroglyphics, although I may not use the exact hieroglyphics that are in the museum piece. (I might put my daughter's name on it, haven't decided yet) I made some sample strips last night with seed beads in different stitches. It's going to be lovely, and quite wearable. Even better, it will be something different than the broad collars everyone pictures when discussing Egyptian jewelry. Best of all, since I'm making a broad collar in the Greenland style, making a bracelet for Egypt will mean that I don't have two broad collars in my collection. (Although it would be interesting to see the styles side by side - maybe I'll make an authentic collar later)Whoo-hoo! I love it when a project comes out of nowhere and whacks me in the head.
