Doreen's Towne Purse

I know they're not your design but to me they are "your" Town Purses. I started one today for myself. If it comes out half as nice and well done as yours I'll be happy. I can't promise pictures when I'm done, I have to rely on family members with a digital camera for my pictures. I'll try to collar someone though when I'm finished. I'll be quilting mine with a kind of meander pattern since the outside fabric has swirls in it. Thanks for the inspiration. BTW DH was thrilled when I told him what I was making. His comment was, *Good, you always put things for yourself on the back burner, because you promised one of the DGC something. Juno

Juno,

That's great! I know your Towne Purse will turn out beautifully. Hope you'll enjoy making and carrying it as much as I do mine. It seems a perfect size for my needs.

Love your DH's comment. There's a distinct possibility, of course, that a DGD will want a Towne Purse when she sees yours. :)

I got a good start today. The lining is done and I started quilting one side. It's like wavy channels, I'm trying to decide if I want to go cross way now so that it will look like wavy boxes. I think it will suit my needs as well. It also will give DH a place to put his glasses when we go somewhere. Do you think that's why he was glad I was doing it? Nah, he doesn't know about all the inside pockets :) As for the granddaughters, the 2 who might be interested will have to wait until I do a bit more for myself. That pair of pants is still waiting. I got side tracked again making some more kiddie things.

Juno....just send the purse to me and I'll take some photos for you. Problem is I might just 'forget' to send it back to you if it's anything like Doreen's Purse. ROFLMHO!!!

Good on you for making something for yourself. Like you, I normally put my things aside and sew for my DGD's but making a few things for me at the moment.

First project is a set of six serviettes and two-cloth tablecloth set to match my chinese dinner set....something I've had in mind for more years than I care to remember. So far I've made both tablecloths, the larger white one covers the table completely and the blue over-cloth will sit over the white on-the-diagonal and the serviettes are in the same blue fabric and will have a white rolled hem around all sides. Next I will embroider chinese type designs...dragons etc to match the dinner set.

The cobalt blue on the porcelain dinner set is not the same shade on every piece which has made it hard to match not only the blue fabric but also blue thread.

Then I splurged and bought some new chopsticks so waiting for them to arrive, they will be a huge improvement on the bamboo ones. Can't wait to finish this project, then have to wait for a family visit to cook a chinese banquet.

Some chance you have of getting your hands on my purse. I'll be glad to send you light panels, but not MY purse. A deal possibly could be worked out on second thought, if you send me your new table cloths and napkins (serviettes). My china is all white, they have a raised edge of roses on the rim and look stunning on blue. I also love the look of layered table cloths. I frequently buy plain sheets for my blue cloths and then serge a rolled hem on them. Inexpensive and easy to do. I usually find just the right blue that way. I have several old white linen cloths that belonged to my mom. I use white napkins that I stenciled seashells on and they look really pretty on the table. Your oriental theme sound really lovely. I'm a big fan of blue and white. It's the main color combination in my home. Juno

Somehow I thought you would want to keep your purse!! LOL

I've used sheets, or sheeting, for tablecloths in the past too, but for this blue, I was more concerned about matching the colour before fabric type, that's why I ended up with cotton although my first choice would have been poly/cotton. Oh well, it should look OK.

Burgundy/Dusty Pink/Cream are my house colours but this chinese dinner set needed blue and when I bought the fabric Spotlight had a '20% off everything sale' so that was even better.

They also had some cream ?poly fabric that looks a little like Aida cloth so when I finish the tablecloth project I'm going to try a Xstitch design to see how it looks, and if it turns out OK then I'll buy a frame.
