Elegant wrap

Nancy Zeiman use to have directions on her free projects for a ruana. She called it an elegant wrap. I found it the other day on another web page and proceeded to lose it. I thought I had it bookmarked, guess I didn't. Does anyone know where I can find the directions? Juno

Whenever I see one of those things I want to keep, I save the page with the "Web page, complete" option in Netscape, and I have it forever.

Dear Friends,

I don't know how Nancy's ruana directions go, but here are mine. This is for wool, but other wide fabrics would work as well. Two yards of fabric are required. Split one yard in the warp direction in the exact center. Fringe or bind the edges. Done. I like this, because if you later decide to use the fabric for another project, you can still cut it. I have one that is a large hound's tooth check that looks great with many of my winter clothes.

Thanks for the directions and website everyone. It was my intention to make a ruana for my DD birthday. I then did the unthinkable, didn't buy enough fabric, so she's getting a very pretty stole. I'm using a sparkly black knit. I plan in making it about 78 inches long and 28wide. That should give her a nice wrap. I plan on seaming it across the width in three places with a spakle black thread and flatlock stitch. I want the ladder side on the right sice of the fabric. I will then use a rolled edge on the sides and ends also using the sparkle thread. She and her DH go to a lot of dress occassions so she should get a lot of use from it. This is the link to the thread I want to use.

I especially like this idea for your fancy stole, simply because it stays right where you put it, unlike a regular stole that keeps falling. Be sure to use metallica needles, as this thread is notorious for breaking. These needles have much larger eyes, and allow the thread to pass through without heating up the needles. She'll love it!!!

It seems to me Nancy's directions were/are similar to what you wrote, Teri. I have them somewhere because I made some for my sisters one year. Emily

Thank you. I think it should be pretty. I can do a rolled hem on my serger so I'll probably just put the thread in the loopers and use a plain black in the needle. Juno

I'm keeping the directions from both Terri and Nancy Zieman that Joanne pointed me too. I think I'll make one for the spring for myself. Juno

That sounds lovely for your DD. I presume you will post a photo for us, so we can wish we had one, too. Emily

Dear Emily, I will be giving it to her on Dec.10th. I'll get DSIL to take a couple of pictures with his digital so that I can post it as soon as I get home on the following Monday. I say that with the hope that my thread arrives on time. I tried ordering it yesterday and had trouble with the order page. I'll have to call them today an order that way.I'm really anxious to make it. She loves it when I make things for her. In the past I've done place mats, table runners and pillows for her. She usually has some project for me when we visit. It's not unusual for her to ask me to bring my machine when we go to her house. Juno

You mean the one I have issues with. They didn't have any black when I looked the other day. There is one other store not to far from my house I can check today. We don't have much in the way if choice around here. Juno
