Gold filled vs gold clasps

I don't feel guilty about asking to see stuff at the LBS. I buy enough at their high prices to be a very good customer. And they know me well enough that they don't have to watch me. And I'll often buy a onies at the store and then order multiples from a catalogue. One of the things that you can't always tell from catalogues though, it how thick the metal is in some beads or clasp. Unfortunately, I like to get a better price, and sometimes I outsmart myself and get to light weight a bead.

Although Fairbanks is good for a small and remote place, and we have some nice art beads, the good imported beads here are very, very high (often as much as lamp work), as are findings.

Yeah, well, that was the brilliant master plan. Get paid to shop for beads, stock them, play with them, meet other like-minded people, mske pretty things together, give away a TON of beads and have a good time! It could work, and surely someone would want to fund that.

(See why I haven't made it to Empress of the Universe yet?)

How DO these rumors get started? hehe I've browsed there a few times, but that's all!

Absolutely! Bought way too much stuff I didn't really need....you know how THAT goes! The Faire was HUGE this time - they actually spilled over into the building just east of the usual....the small one on the corner of the street. THAT building was HOT! NO air conditioning in it at all and it was 100* that weekend! YUK! Now that it's drawing such large crowds, I wish some of the seed bead/delica vendors would start manning some booths there, too! We need more than just the ONE guy with the old, dusty seeds! (although he's mighty nice to chat with!)

Yeah, I know, but I've always been like this and it's at any store, not just my LBS - I really, really hate asking for things to be brought out. In my perfect world, I would never have to ask a store employee for anything, ever. I have this meek thing where I just don't want to take up their time. The only time I'll ask for something to be brought out is if I'm the only person in the store.

(In my perfect world, people would also *never* steal, so there would be no need for locked cases anyway!)

Yep, some customer service reps do act like you are interrupting when you ask for help. Just remember - they have a job ONLY because you and everyone else shops there. If they act like a jerk when you ask for help, report them to the manager. Customer service is not an easy job - I did it for 15 years - but it IS their job to assist the customers. Just be respectful, treat them like a fellow human, and you should be fine.

In my state, you simply get a form at your bank, and send it with a small fee to the Bureau of Corporations or Ministry of Cash Cow or something vaguely sinister-sounding like that. You could call the Small Business Administration in your state and ask them, or you might also try asking at your bank next time you're in; just something like "Do you have forms to register my business with the state?" should do the trick. Most banks require you have your state's equivelant of a wholesale license in order to open a business account, thus will have the information you need.

Oh, man! I've been in retail my whole life, and I LOVE it when people want to look at the extra-fancy locked-up stuff! I don't even care if they actually might buy it, I just like the chance to get it out and play with it and talk about it! I have lots of people tell me right up front "I can't afford to buy, I just want to get a closer look" and I'm thrilled to give them that chance.

Don't ever feel like you're "wasting" a clerk's time... if they love what they do, they will really enjoy the opportunity to talk about their merchandise with you, and if they don't, maybe at least it will give them an interesting way to pass a little time. Furthermore, it might give them a chance to learn more about the item themselves. Ask questions!
