Welcome, Lise! Be sure to announce any lampwork bead auctions you have -- we all like to look, and even bid. If you don't tell us, though, we won't ever like you, ever. EVER. ;-)

You mean you are supposed actually sell them and send them away!?!? ;-) I don't know how you guys actually let them go to new homes! I will probably have to work on that....but it will also be a while before I have something saleable anyway. You all will be the first to know when I get up the nerve to actually do that!

No, it's not. fabric is a lot bulkier than beads. You can put $200 worth of beads into your pocket, and no one (say, just for larfs, a budget-minded husband) can even tell. Heck, you could put $500 worth of beads in a pocket, if you bought nice ones.

I know how quickly fabric craft rooms fill up. It takes much, much longer to fill up a bead room. I can't tell you exactly how much longer, because I think I still have a few more beads to buy. :-)

Haw! Well, I think it helps when you can start by selling them to people you think of as friends. At least then, you know they'll be going to good homes. ~~ Sooz

I noticed him at BABE last November. He was very nice, and funny too. ~~ Sooz

Hi Lise,

Yet another bead maker. I also met John Winter at the BABE show in Oakland last Nov. (I was visiting there for my mother's 80th birthday.) And while I was there I got some of his bead. He had a nice touch.

What beadwork did you do before looking into lampwork?

*beaming here* Thank you! Having such a wonderful studio assistant is freeing me up to play with the glass more. That, plus as soon as she walks in the door she's demanding to see what I made the previous few days. Can't disappoint her, you know. LOL!

Thank you for your nice comments about my work! As I move through the coming summer, I suspect my work will go through a lot of changes. I will have classes from or exposure to the teaching of Loren Stump, Fred Birkhill, Shane Fero, Milon Townsend and more. I can't imagine that I will come out of those experiences without a drastic change in the way I work and the vision I have.

I think my new favorites are my coccoon beads. I did an EDP one yesterday and was able to use the devit process to frost the "diamond panes" of glass on the clear central window of the bead. It's not up on my site because we had difficulty photographing it and a couple of others.

Hi Tina,

I was doing the basics...stringing, wire wrapping, chain making, and more recently working with seed beads. I am fortunate to have several LBS's with tons of classes.

once you start selling things though, it's easy to get into it. I always wonder what will become of the things I've made and sold to people over the past year and a half..I know of two women who have entire collections of my dolls, and I'd like to think that they'll be something passed down and loved, not packed away in boxes and forgotten. same thing with my jewelry. I doubt anything I've made will become a "family heirloom", but I can at least hope that it's all cherished by whoever owns it.
