Shoes? No, no, shoes are only for if you're leaving the house. Otherwise, socks, sweats and my Oscar the Grouch tee shirt today.
definitely I only wear shoes when I go out too.... and have been caught more than once at work walking to the printer or copier ...without my shoes! because I slipped them off under my desk... then forgot and padded down the aisle to the printers! LOL
Cheryl last semester of lawschool! yipee! DRAGON BEADS Flameworked beads and glass
I hardly ever wore shoes at work much less home. I walk Trinkett most days without shoes as well. That was the only piece of clothing I hardly ever wore growing up, by choice. Even in Alaska I only wore then if we were going anywhere. I was out in the ice and snow without shoes.

I don't know why I'm intimidated. I see all these pieces in the magazines, and read the profiles of the beaders. It seems like they've all been beading thirty years or so. (I've been doing this a little less than three years, since I became disabled. Before that, I painted and sculpted) Also, it seems to me that most of the featured projects are very abstract and freeform, which isn't my style at all. (Yes, I'm the only person on Earth who doesn't like Freeform Peyote)
Remember we were talking about artists for inspiration? My favorite are all those Dutch Renaissance realists. I love impressonism for its use of color, but it just doesn't speak to me the way that those portraits of everyday life in Holland do. My beadwork reflects that in a way - my stuff tends to be very balanced, mostly symmetrical and you can usually tell the item I'm portraying. That whole point of view seems to be very out of vogue with currrent beadworking trends.
Being out of style doesn't bother me in the least, since I bead for my own pleasure. But I would feel hurt and sad if I sent in a photo to one of the magazines and they told me my work stunk.
I have to say, the one thing that doesn't worry me is that someone will think I'm a copycat. All my designs come entirely out of my own head, and I couldn't follow someone else's pattern to save my life.
I will definitely have to consider it later, but for now, I think I'll share my creations with the select few people here in the group. :-)

no - you're not! well, it's not that i don't like it when someone else does it. it just frustrates me too much for ME to do it.

I'm honored to be one of the folks who have seen your creations via computer. I truly feel that you are in the museum quality league. I have several friends with beadwork at the Smithsonian and yours should be right beside them.
I get lectures when I get glass in my feet. If I even sniffle I never hear the end of it so I suck it up for art's sake.

Kathy, that is an amazing work of art...all I can say is WOW! The crystal kimono was also incredible, and you have some wonderful jewelry pieces up too! Thanks for sharing the pictures, Arleen
Oh, how I wish! What fun that would be to walk into a festival like that with such a stunning piece upon my head! I will be heading to Santa Fe for BeadExpo that weekend though.
Duh! Of course I think. Listen Kathy...I see a lot of beadwork...and I mean a lot. Your Kokoshnik is
100% unique. It is gorgeous to look at. And it invites lots of creative juices to form in my imagination. Those few things alone are enough that you should consider sharing it will as many beaders as you can.I understand you might have reservations...that ol' rejection demon many artists carry on their back can be pretty hard to shut up sometimes. I say you shove a wad of nymo down its throat...that shut the bugger up for a bit...at least long enough for you to send some slides to a mag. ;o)
Yeah well....you think wrong then missy. A lot of that stuff is just a little more fluff. Not all mind you...I do admire much of it. But, your work is so intriguing....that is what really sets it apart.
What's that story about the little train?
I am eagerly waiting!
Beki
That doesn't make them good at it. =o)
