He's Kevin O'Grady's brother. Kevin makes those to die for glass bracelets and paperweights.

Thanks for the link!

Johnny really enjoyed talking to him - - especially after he had just said [luckily to me and not loudly] "but, glass is glass, isn't it?"

he doesn't have any pictures on his site of the ones i liked best - they were about 1.5inches long x 3/8inch in diameter [i'm guessing]. he starts with clear glass. makes the bead. puts "Kandice-type" swirls on the outside. THEN, he "vaporizes" gold he buys from prospectors and waves the beads through the fumes. then he "seals" the bead in the flame again. [i'm probably phrasing some of this wrong, but that's the sense i got from what he said] what emerges is a pink-tinged bead with gorgeous gold highlights. he had some done the same way with silver, too.

maybe some day, i'll be able to afford them! he doesn't sell anything from his site - it all goes to galleries or shows. John found a vase he really wanted, but didn't have the $450 yet.

i had just information from what i've picked up here to explain the error of his ways. then, his conversation with George helped, too.

he had to explain to George that "i just pick them out - then she does stuff with them".

i think it may fascinate John somewhat because he sees glass as something to make glasses out of . . .

he was definitely interesting. he reminded me of my dad, in a way. i got the impression he was inherently shy enough that he didn't really want to be dealing with people, so he'd made up a "line of patter" to help him get through it, which is the same thing i end up doing if i'm in that position. when he started juggling some of his work over that concrete floor, i almost had heart failure.
