Re: Karen bead and question

]Looking at what you have there, and hearing Jamie's preferences, I'd be real ]tempted to keep that arrangement of crystals, add a couple silver links, and ]leave it at that. I think if I did something complex like that chain, I ]would do it in darker colors, that wouldn't compete with the focal bead.

interesting... thanks, Tina!

it's not necessarily FOR Jamie. it was just her comment when i offered to make something for her and i wondered if all my stuff was becoming too "fussy". she and her friends all snap up the dreamcatchers, instead.

I think it's beautiful! Of course, a younger person might like a simpler design - the teens and twenty-somethings tend to like the simpler stuff these days, as far as I can see. I'd wear it though!

I would too!

My niece who is 21 years old and her friends prefer simple designs with lots and lots of crystals.

I think it's cool! The lines are clean but there's a lot of interest in each strand. And I loooove that big facetted bead up at the top. I have some in black but I haven't seen other colors in ages.

Kaeren, are you comfortable with vermeil? After all, it's just glorified gold plate? But it sure does come in pretty beads.

You can make the design primarily crystals in one strand - just alternate simple Swarovski bicones and maybe small round or disk-shaped silver beads - even the tiny Bali daisy spacers wirk well. Not much to the design, but the simplicity is often what the younger people go for. I made necklaces for my two teenage cousins (they're twins but dress very differently) last Christmas. They had very small lampwork beads mixed with crystal bicones and Bali spacers. Y shaped necklaces with just one strand, with a small chain for adjusting the size. They loved them.

:) Me too, but that's because we're more into beads in general, I think. :)

I'm not Karen, and I don't play her on TV, but I am comfortable with the vermeil spaces I use on occasion. I put them in areas on my designs that won't get much (if any wear), like a small spacer between two larger beads. I don't use vermeil clasps though, because of the wear issue.

The stuff she and her friends don't leap on may be ideal for a totally different audience, though...

If you like making the things she isn't interested in, I'd suggest checking with a different crowd on the ones she leans away from.

yes. most of my sales [except for the dreamcatchers] are not to her age group. which is why Johnny makes such a great "walking ad" for me. he runs into a much more varied age group, because of his job and his social life.

you're right. and mostly that's what i've done up to now. she just really startled me. i'd love to make things her friends would wear [actually had a commission from one]. i just hadn't thought about them liking the simpler things. they always snatch up the dreamcatchers so fast, their preferences in other things hadn't registered yet.
