Meeting one's Inner Goddess

I have a client who has had her collage reduced and laminated, and she carries one in her wallet, she has one velcro'd onto her steering wheel, she has one on the bathroom mirror, has one one her computer, had it made into her mousepad.

She's a hoot, but she's getting married next month and that is on her collage...it's what she's wanted for a very long time.

there are many reasons: the "need to please", the "need to be liked", the "avoidance of other things", etc. Sometimes though, a cigar is just a cigar.

it's a part of the entire process that i use to coach people after they have defined their vision mission and goals. After that work, they build a collage or collages based on what they want themselves and their lives to look like...really look like. When you were younger maybe you put a picture of someone on your refrigerator to inspire you not to eat because you wanted to look like that person? Well, this is it on a larger scale. It becomes part of the roadmap to your future. And it changes as you reach certain destinations, take some detours, etc. I can't remember not having one of some sort or another.

Again, I use it with my clients as part of a larger process to help them make the changes they want...kinda how do i pack for the trip, if i don't know where i'm headed?

Well, now that you mention it....my whole family participated in things like that, and I think that's why I have such a hard time with my weight. I was never considered "ok" for who I was (even tho I wasn't overweight then, just a big kid!!)...

I think I'll give it a try, but not put any images of "people". I want to be ME, not another person...does that make sense, or am I missing the whole point?...

Oh, man! If you watched Oprah at all, you'd know you weren't alone! It's a theme she harps on (to death), but she's right. She calls it the Disease To Please. (I brought it up on the AOL beading message board once, and I was nearly stoned to death for doing so. But everyone worships Oprah for talking about it. Sheesh.)

Next time you want to impulsively volunteer to do something, stop and examine your motives. Ask yourself WHY you want to do it. You can always volunteer in

3 minutes -- why are you in such a rush?

Then go ahead and volunteer if you think it's an okay idea. (A VERY okay idea, no less.) But give yourself a moment to think it over. I think you'll find your life becomes better balanced as a result. ~~ Sooz To live a creative life, we must lose our fear of being wrong. ~~Joseph Chilton Pearce

No, that's right! You put pics of things you aspire to. Like before you got that horsie-babe, you'd put a pic of a horse on there, maybe.

I'm putting everything that makes me happy -- from techniques I want to learn, to things I want for my home, to you name it -- on my bulletin board. And seeds of ideas to make me more creative -- like color combos, etc. ~~ Sooz To live a creative life, we must lose our fear of being wrong. ~~Joseph Chilton Pearce

I'm liking this idea a lot. I might play around with it, see what I come up with.

Exactly! This same client who is getting married next month has a bride and groom on hers. She has her head on the bride, and for a long time the groom was headless. When she met Brian, she put his head on it, because that's who she wanted to marry. For mine, I put on words that remind me who I am and who I want to be, in addition to my images, poems, questions I have, etc. My clients, as well as the ones of other coaches, define their mission, vision and goals before building the map, because they want fewer detours in their trip to their next destination. But some people view detours as the best part of the journey. I happen to work with people who have clearly defined mission vision and goals and want to reach them in the most direct route and in the shortest time. Have fun with the journey.

That about made me cry. It's me, too. But you know what? I love you, whether you extend yourself or not, let alone over-extend yourself.
