Miyuki Glass Drops

OK, since Dr. Sooz is crackin' the whip here, I just wanted to say how much I love Miyuki glass drops :-) I bought a bunch of different colours and used them for the first time on last week with a new necklace that I finished on Tuesday (when it stops raining I'll get pictures). I had previously bought some orange Czech glass drops, but they were hard to pair with any colours that I had. I had also ordered some brown Miyuki drops, but wasn't sure what to do with them either (Can you guess that I'm prone to spending accidents? :-D). Anyway, voila, orange and brown went together so well! I only wish that the orange drops had the clarity of the Miyuki ones. The orange ones are about 2cm long and the Miyuki ones are probably less than 1/4 of that. I'm really jazzed about them, I haven't looked to see if they come in bigger sizes, but I hope they do :-)

Miyuki drops are 3.4mm and as far as I know, that's the only size they make.

Magatamas are about 4mm and slightly squarish.

LMAO! Marisa, I love that :-) That deserves to be done up in x-stitch or beadpoint.

Don't we all Becki? A local craft chain went out of business about five years ago and I bought a lot of fabric at a very good price...now I'm thinking of selling the fabric because it's just not going to happen.

My latest accident is a doozy...I'll have a sales ad soon. I underestimated how much a half kilo of seed beads is :-D

Hi Barbara,

Thanks for letting me know. That's kind of a shame they don't come bigger. I haven't heard of magatamas before. I'll have to order a sample :-)

:-D Glad to have made your day!

I have transparent red, opaque black, opaque white and transparent crystal. It seemed more economical to order them by the half-kilo than by the hank. So I thought...well, I would probably end up using a lot of the basics - black and white - and then of course because I do Christmas crafts, red and silver. It's probably a good thing I said "Hmm, this is getting expensive" or else I would have green and gold as well!

Well gosh...a half kilo is 1.1 lbs btw. So I have 4.4 lbs of beads! That's more than a lifetime's worth of seed beads :-D I can't believe that it didn't dawn on me that I was ordering that much.

We're booked for three Christmas craft sales, so I'll bag a few of each colour and maybe they can find new homes. A friend has already taken 40 grams off my hands, but if I can sell 250 grams of each, that would make a sufficient dent. I'll be sure to take a picture when I get home.

I love miyuki drops! I use them for so much..borders on peyote stitch, in free-form peyote, in bead embroidery, in spiral rope (they look amazing in spiral rope)...I have so many tubes of them that they take up two and a half organizers.

Christine -- I need some opaque black -- how much per hank plus shipping to the states? You can email me with the answer.

I can see why you love them so much! It sounds like you have a real mountain of them. I haven't tried spiral rope or peyote, although I have a Beadstyle Basics magazine which shows how. Thanks for sharing that idea...I'll have to try it with once I master it with seed beads :-)

I have to admit the black pile is a little on the low side since I filled up some empty tubes with it. Not that you would ever know of course :-)
