my first craft show, of sorts.

One of the women at the university I work at realized that there are a great many women working here who do crafts of some sort. there are knitters, quilters, jewelry makers..you name it, there's someone here who does it.

so she brought it to the attention of one of the Deans, and gained permission to do a little employees only craft show next friday, as there are no classes on friday and employees would be able to set up tables and sell and shop in peace.

I've never done any sort of craft show before, but I think this might be a good start..in a familiar setting, with people I see just about every day. I'm terribly excited about it..I can barely contain myself til next friday.

I just had to share my news..now let's hope I sell something, because I really need the spare cash right now with the holidays and my almost non-existent new car fund!

good lluck to you, Amber.

I hope you don't have the same experience as me, and that you don't live in a town thats flooded with craft fairs (Hilo is, there's at least 3 every weekend right now in a town of 40,000, I have another one tomorrow (today, really) and the day after. This year I'm scouting these things out, I'm planning on doing maybe one next year around this

time and one around the time of the Merrie Monarch Festival (big hula festival in Hilo, hard to get a hotel room a year in advance I've heard))

2 a.m.? I have a work meeting at 8:15. I better get some sleep.

nope..in fact, there are barely any craft fairs here to speak of. there's one big art festival every year, and a small crafts fair in september, and those are the only two that anyone really knows and goes to.

good to hear. We have so many here now that they don't get full anymore. And of course the craft shoppers have so many opportunities to shop that they don't show up at all of them ... (or maybe don't go at all anymore because they can't make up their minds? - the last one I went to had a long line outside the building before it opened, but that was also one that has been around for a long time.)

One thing I also noticed is that getting the word out is important, like with everything else, and some are much better than others about that. Thre's one organized by Ben Franklin next weekend here where you can pick up flyers in the store. Of course I did, and once this one is over I'll tape one into window of my truck too.

Again, good luck! Maren Tropical seeds - Job's Tears Jewelry - Plants & Lilikoi

sadly, the show was canceled. however, I did sell $230 worth of stuff to someone at work yesterday, and another woman has two necklaces on reserve that will total up to $120. so that's not too bad.

yup! I was quite happy about that. If she'd bought all the things she'd originally set aside, she would've ended up spending more like $590, but I was happy with the $230 she did spend. It was my biggest jewelry sale I've made so far.

Congratulations! (maybe you get some referral customers out of that too?)

I hope so. The woman who bought the jewelry was telling people in her office all about it, so all day I had people coming to see it. No one else bought anything, but at least now they know what I do and price ranged.
