Thanks Patti. I haven't been to Australia in over 35 years - I expect much has changed. And I'm hoping I might even run into some occupational therapists who are also beadmakers - that would be so cool! I promise I'll report back.

I imagine Susan will be far more comfortable in Australia in the winter than an Australian would be in Edmonton in the winter.

How did your trip go? Great combination -- mental health, physical health and beads!!

Hi Tina - it was great! A little short, in that I only recovered from jet lag a few days before I left to come home but ... Sydney is a very interesting city - such a mix of Victorian English and Asian influences everywhere the eye turns. I had fun leaving beads for conference delegates to find throughout the conference site each day, and met a few people interested in both beads and occupational therapy. I went to some interesting presentation, including one by a futurist who was really quite fascinating. On my non-conference days, I went to two different and very good street markets, and soaked up the lovely "winter" weather, which was only a few (maybe 5 degrees) cooler than the temperatures I'd left. One thing that has changed since I lived briefly in Oz 30 years ago is the food - it is such a fusion of influences, and so good. One can still get (and I had to try it) meat pies topped with a scoop of mashed potatoes and then another scoop of mushy peas (I skipped the gravy), but there is such a profusion of good food and wine. I didn't see many lampwork beads in any of the fine craft stores I found, but did see some very nice blown glass, some great modern jewelry and some very wearable clothes by Aussie designers. Becuase it was late in winter, I found some great deals on wool sweaters and a wool jacket.

I would definitely go back again, although with the way flying has changed in the last two weeks since I returned, I'm not sure whether flying for pleasure will be something I will do much more of ...
