OT A soggy mess I could cry.

Well things are going from bad to worse. In the early hours of this morning the water tank in the loft overflowed. I could cry at the mess we have. DH had to clear out the "Glory Hole" to gain access to the loft to shut the water off. It came through his bedroom ceiling, ran down the wall and soaked the carpet. It then ran through the bedroom floor boards and through the ceiling in the living room and down the wall. The bed is wet and we have buckets on it and the bedroom floor catching the drips. The paper is hanging off the ceiling. The water came through the light fitting so we cannot switch the electric on to see what is happening. I have spread more towels on the carpet to try and soak some water up. At 4am I was using the Wet and Dry vacuum cleaner to pull some of the water out. However it is very noisy and I did not want to upset my neighbour who is not well.

I felt rough yesterday with being cold. I started with the sneezes and sniffles last night. I now feel awful after another sleepless night and my heart is thumping wildly.

Please send me some good vibes to help me get through this.

I was supposed to be booking up a mini cruise to Rotterdam today but I think the money will be needed to redecorate.

Omh Shirley, how terrible for this to happen! And even when you are feeling bad. Can things get any worse? I certainly don't hope they will! Get dry soon. ((((((((hugs)))))))))

Bart

PS why do terrible things happen to those who least deserve it?

Oh Shirley. I am so sorry. I hope you have a way to take a hot bath after all that. Maybe the two of you should go to a hotel or spa for a night and treat yourselves to a weekend away together after you clean up the bulk of it all. Things will have dried by the time you get home and you'd be refreshed. Wish you lived closer. We would all come over and take care of the cleaning and remodel for you!

Call a disaster cleaning service, one of those places that will clean the house if there's a fire. (Your homeowner's insurance can give you recommendations and here in the US, they would pay for it) My mom had a similar situation two years ago, and the service did everything: ripped out the wet plaster, replaced all the insulation and carpet, and installed heavy duty dehumidifiers so the house/furniture wouldn't get musty. It cost her nothing - the homeowner's insurance paid every penny.

However, it did take time. The cleaning people came right away, but getting all the pieces done took several weeks. Mom did end up having to take a couple of days off work to meet with workmen and the like.

Thank you all for your good vibes. The day had more to throw at me. DH did not feel well this morning and my priority was to get rid of some of the water. So I started sucking it up out of the carpet with the Aqua vac. I got 4 buckets catching the drips. 2on the bed and 2 on the floor. Then I picked up the huge bath towels that I had laid on the carpet to help soak up the water. Paper on ceiling looking as if it would drop down any minute

I took the towels down to put in the washing machine. Got the first ones out and put another lot in. Hung them outside to dry.

Had lunch and decided I would have a nap to catch up on lost sleep. It went dark and then started thundering. I dashed upstairs to unplug computer. Then I dashed outside to fetch in towels. We had hail, snow and rain.

Got in my recliner again and just dropping of to sleep when a knock at the front door. It was David bringing his dehumidifier to help get the water away and dry the bed out..

I thought sleeping is not going to work. So I looked at the local newspaper. In it I saw an advert for a new craft store that was opened. I though blow it I will go and see what they had to offer.

Put my coat and was going through the kitchen to go out when I noticed the error sign on the washing machine. Drain or filter blocked. I left DH to clear that and off I went to the craft store 10 miles away. When I got there it was closed. They had neglected to say that it did not open until Oct 27th.

So I went back home to find DH had cleared the drain. However the washing machine would not spin. So I am left with a pile of washed and unwashed wet towels. Got to call the repair man in the morning, we have only had it 4 months.

The dripping as stopped but my nose has not. All in all I feel cream crackered. Surely nothing else will go awry today. Shirley

Awww, Shirley. I'm so sorry to hear this.

I wish I could think of some practical advice. Please remember that your body is even more important than your home. Treat it well, dear.
