Despite it all, some days I do manage to do some things that make me feel like a useful person. And some things just astonish me.
-- Astonished: You guys are the best! Not only are you holding me steady during this horrible time, but you're making me feel downright good. Mary sent me some amazing Swarovski bracelets (which are going to be canniblaized) in colors and styles I've never even seen before. I've gotten notes and things from so many of you, I can't believe it. I often wonder how I had the good fortune to fall in with the lot of you. Thank you all.
-- Astonished: Holy guacamole, is that diuretic powerful! This morning, I was able to put on my wedding band for the first time in months. On a lark, I weighed myself. I've lost 24 lbs in less than a week! Holy carp! That's like those miracle diet pills, although, as they say, "it's all water." Still 24 lbs. wow.
-- Astonished and Useful: DD just called. She has been doing less than wonderfully in science and was having a hard time understanding the book. Yesterday, we studied together, and I made up filthy acronyms for the bits of obscure information that were guaranteed to be on the test. At the end of the class, she asked the teacher to grade it then and there, so she wouldn't have to wait. She got a 90%! That's unheard of for this teacher, and he was impressed. Even though DD is taking _all_ the credit (as well she should, 13 is an amazingly self absorbed age) I feel glad that I could help her.
-- Astonished and Miraculous: Oma is doing really, really well. She's now on a normal diet, and bitching about going home. She was able to get rid of the catheter, and because she had it for a relatively short period of time, she is using the bathroom without problems. The docs are trying to find a bed in a rehab hospital for a while, but she's going to be just fine, knock wood. Opa, OTOH, is freaking out. He's worried that Oma will come home "too soon," so yesterday he took apart all the wood stoves and swept the chimneys. Tanta Lia has her hands full with him.
-- Astonished and smirking: At the family gathering on Saturday, my brother and sister were playing "who can display the most ostentatious wealth?" Brother announced that he has ordered a BMW M3 (~$50K?) and that they're going to Bermuda. Sister announced that she and her husband are looking at a Cadillac EXP ($80K?)
But I had brought my mother a box of some special German gingerbread that I ordered months ago. And I brought a couple or three necklaces that I had made for my nieces and a friend of my Mom's who had come for the day. One of us was the fair haired girl, for once, and it wasn't one of the people getting a new car.
BTW, once P/TD takes the Bug, I'm going to buy myself a 20 year old Mercedes, and get a vanity plate. It'll have to say "FU BRO," because my brother is always telling me how "ghetto" I am, and what crappy cars I drive. If the DMV won't let me have "FU BRO," I'll get "PAID 4," because I don't go into debt to buy a car. heh heh heh.
=================
All in all, I'm a happy campette. Sophie is still sick, and I'm worried about her, but we have an appointment with a new vet this evening. (Our old vet is 20-ish miles away, and I can't drive that far) I totally muffed the beaded winter jacket, so I'll be doing quite a bit of rippit stitch this evening.
But life is good, and I'm happy.
