OT - Can't stand it (pseudo rant) ;)

Headline should read... New LBS: fact or phantom? :)

About a month ago, driving down a busy street, I spotted a large sign leaning against the side of an old house (used to be a palm reader's shop/home). Painted on the sign was... 'Exotic Beads and Jewelry'!!! I passed by again a week or two later and the sign was still leaning against the side of the building but there were new steps and exterior painting in progress but no cars parked in front. I tried to find a phone number for the business, no luck.

Passing by a few days ago I see the sign has been installed but on the side of the house, not the front (?), the windows are covered in newspaper and the exterior painting is complete. And no one ever seems to be there actually doing the work! (oh and during this time I've gotten half a dozen phones calls from various people letting me know there was a new bead shop in town... they saw the same sign and for some reason thought of me!) :)

Don't these phantom 'Exotic Bead' people know what chaos it has caused in my life to hold that sign out in front of me, like a carrot, but neglect to post a phone number or Opening Soon banner (and a opening date would be nice as well!) :) :) :) I continue to drive by, watch and wait... the LBS stalker!

sheez... some people! ;)

Me too! Well, I'm not fooling myself and totally expect to see higher-than-online prices but it'll be great just having a LBS here for browsing and picking up those things I never have at the right time or small purchases to save on postage. And connecting with other addicts, errr I mean beaders, is always a good thing! :)

Well I tend to be fairly agressive so I'd just go on up and knock on their door. You can always act dumb and pretend you thought they were open and then ask when they will be opening. A good business owner would not be rude to a potential future customer!

lol That's my plan for tomorrow. I'm currently car-less and have been at the mercy of others for transport or I would've been there already, beating down the door... or at least knocking nicely! :)

Polly, What's the latest on your LBS to be? Did you go over there? Also, if you were unsuccessful in finding out any information, your local Chamber of Commerce might have an idea when they'll open. Or, it might be an issue with not getting a Ceritificate of Occupany from your local municipality.

We all want to know, though probably not as much as you do!

I've stopped by 3-4 times over the last few days but no luck. A sweet old cajun man at the business next door said he had talked to them several times and that they are waiting for a permit or license of some kind. He also commented that they seemed to be nice 'young' people though they seem to have "a lot of tattoos and earrings". ;)

Sounds good to me!
