OT: Do you FREECYCLE?

I recently joined two local freecycle groups... the idea is that if you have something to OFFER, you can post it and someone can take it off your hands, And if you have something you NEED, you can post and maybe someone will have it. I had another monitor to fry... I don't know what I'm doing wrong here LOL ... but someone GAVE me one for free within about 3 days of my asking, and I had several more offers! The monitor is better than the one I had, and works like a charm. The young man who gave it to me even delivered it to my place of work and was thrilled that someone could use it. I gave away a bunch of wood for carving and the young man who took it is going to repair my washing machine as soon as I can buy the part! One lady posted a need for medical books on one group, and I read about a lady on another group who had some books to give, and I hooked them up. Made me feel good anyhow.

Maybe you already know about this... but it's even better than donating b/c you know who is going to use it [and know it isn't going to be thrown away - I've had that happen at Goodwill], and better than recycling cuz there's no middle man IMHO. Anyway to look up your local "chapter", click here:

I love freecycle - the theory is that you give stuff away to someone who can use it rather than sending it to the landfill, thus the "recycle" part.

I've given away all kinds of stuff--the half used bottles of shampoo and body lotion were gratefully received by a lady who runs a women's shelter. I didn't think anyone would want that stuff, but you never know.

There are freecycle groups everywhere. If you're cleaning out, it's a great place to start.

Hey Karleen,

I am on a local Freecycle group too. I love the idea so much. We have had someone take our old toilet, lots of candles (I can't burn them anymore because of the birds), old buckets, books, magazines, windshield wipers...when it works, it really works well and that makes me happy too :-) I hate throwing stuff out, and sometimes local thrift shops just throw things out too...at least this way the item is going to be reused. I have never been fast enough to get anything off the group though.

The local group does have its downside unfortunately...sometimes people don't come pick up their item, and right now a disgruntled former member is impersonating the moderator and harassing people :S It must depend on where you live!

Best, Christine

Freecycle is fabulous. We live on a somewhat-busy corner, and we've also just put out a FREE box before. Even furniture. It's usually gone by morning.....If it's not gone, we post it on craigslist and it disappears immediately!

As for shampoo or bath gel you d> I love freecycle - the theory is that you give stuff away to someone
