OT: For the ladies mostly...

Hi Beady Buddies,

This is off topic, but I was reminded that this month is breast cancer awareness month, and that some ladies think they are unable to get mammograms because they don't have insurance and can't afford it. This was discussed in a thread below, but I thought it was important enough to post higher in the list.

There are ways to get free mammograms in every state. Check the link below to see a map of the US from the CDC and find out what's available in your state.

if you are over 40, you NEED to get your mammo! I just found out that 10% of breast cancer is found in MEN... I'm not sure how men are screened, but you need to find out! HTH

As I've offered in past years, if anyone wants a shower card that gives instructions (in English & Spanish) on how to do a SBE, let me know. I'll be happy to mail one (or more) to you.

You can also fund mammograms here:

This is freaky reading this. I had a mammogram done just last week and it has been, well I was thinking it was last done about 3 years ago. Ha! I found out my last one was done in '97. I just can't believe its been that long ago. Anyway, today I got a call from the radiologist wanting me to come back next Tuesday to take some more views of my right breast. So I'm really freaked out over that. The nurse said it was something about the density he wanted to check further. I was expecting a card from my gyno telling me my mammo was perfectly normal. So I'm trying to not worry about this.

JoJo, I have "lumpy breasts". Fibrocystic. Dense, in spots. I always need to also get an ultrasound. And they always are normal. This is probably what is happening to you. So don't freak out.

Good for you. It's common to have to go back for more films. A normal mammo (not diagnostic) only takes a few pertinent films of each breast if there's any issues such as cysts or density they need to take more, this is a good thing! You want them to be thorough.
