OT: Jamie update 8-9

so, Thursday Jamie turned 21. **sigh** there were a lot of times i was convinced she would never make it this far [from 11 - 17 she had a really rough road]. We tried and tried to call her and wish her a happy birthday, but could not get through. i did know that she had said she was going to be doing community service work that day, and would not be back at the barracks until very late, but not answering her cell phone was a bit odd.

now, i know why. their community service work [all MPs, btw] consisted of running the concessions at Seattle Seahawk stadium for the METALLICA CONCERT!!!! Jamie is NOT a Metallica fan, but her little brother is - big time. i couldn't figure out how Metallica translates into community service, but this morning she explained that they do it to raise money for their MP charity fund. which is cool. she likes the charity work they do. and today, she's giving up her day off to go do it again at Seattle Seahawk stadium, but this time for a preseason football game.

BOY, has SHE grown up!

]You get back so much more than you give in terms of self-development when ]you do volunteer work. Jamie is a remarkable young woman if she has gotten ]this far so soon.

always. both Jamie and Johnny have been happy to do volunteer work since they were freshmen in high school. their "police academy" required it, and they found they really enjoyed it - esp if it involved young children. they always put in many more hours than required. it sometimes startles me to find she is still doing it. she is aware the she gets "points" on her evaluations for doing it, but my guess is, she would be doing it anyway. for some reason, i'm always surprised that they've turned out so well, knowing what they had to cope with growing up.

Congrats, and a belated Happy Birthday. She sounds a lot like her mom, actually.
