OT What is the best way to transfer cash from USA to UK.

I have made a tassel for a lady in USA. This time I need the cash and do not want goods in return.

What is the best way to send dollars from USA to UK.

The only time I had a money order it took months to come to me. In this case I will not send the goods until I get the cash. I do not know this lady, she contacted me after seeing my tassel on Barbara Elbe's website. She was searching the web for fancy tassels. So need the money before I send goods. Any advice appreciated. I do not do Paypal so that is out. Shirley

Paypal is quite convenient ... Do you have a problem with that?

Check with YOUR personal bank and see if they will take a US drawn check. I've heard that in Britain, this has a large conversion fee... which cuts into your payment.... which is why paypal is convenient. OH OH - I know...

Ask SU ( or anyone else you know in UK) who has PAYPAL to help out.. Have the lady pay SU .. by Paypal... paypal converts US to British pounds.. (less paypal fee) then Su can write you a check... for what remains - if she'd be so kind...

I have explained this before, that Paypal is another financial thing I do not want to get into at nearly 70 years of age. I do not want to leave a mess of accounts if I shuffle of this earth suddenly due to my heart problems. Dh even older than me does not want it all because he does not do any transactions that require it. He cannot use a computer. Thanks for your advice. Hugs Shirley

Western Union. Their site shows they have locations both in the US and in the UK. The only problem is that you have to be close to one of their locations and they take a reasonably hefty fee, I think. Take a look at their site. My experience with them has been favourable. I'd rather use Paypal.

It shouldn't take months for you to receive a money order; in this case, I would suspect the delay was at the sender's end. I accept international money orders fairly frequently, and none of them has ever taken more than a week to arrive, nor has any envelope or package I sent Airmail taken more than ten days to get to the receiver; they usually arrive in less than a week as well.

Shirley,

I'm happy to accept the money for you and send you the cash in a cheque from Mike's account.

If that's ok with you then let me know and I'll give you a call on Monday. We just got back from a run down to London for the bead fair and I'm totally flattened.
