Welcome Coleen! OT

Just want to jump the gun and welcome a newbie, Coleen. Welcome to wonderful and whacky RCTQ Land.

Kate, Wendy, and I 'met' Coleen over in another NG and invited her to come over here too. With the three of us jumping up and down and waving at her, did she ever stand a chance?

Hello Pat, Wendy and Kate and others --

Yes, in another NG a FQ was mentioned and I inquired if that stood for Fat Quarter. And here I am, lol. I am a VERY new quilter. And also very inexperienced. I am actually still working on all three quilts that I have started -- let's see, a couple of years ago I took a quilting class with my oldest daughter (who is a great quilter when she is not being a teacher). The pattern was called Hidden Wells (I keep wanting to say Indian Wells, but that is a city in California) and it is definitely not a pattern for a first time quilter, whew!! Anyway, I struggled and struggled with that quilt, but I finally finished the piecing and have had it quilted so now I just need to add the binding. It was done in all blues and whites. My second quilt was a Tumbling Blocks quilt, also not a great quilt for a beginner. The pattern had wonderful instructions for putting the blocks together but very little on how to join the blocks together. DD was a great help there. I am now done piecing it waiting to get it quilted. It was also done in all blues and whites (can you guess that my favorite color is blue)?? And my third quilt was started this past Sunday. I am so proud of it. My DD had helped me pick out fabrics for the first two and had been here to hold my hand when I reached a rough spot. BUT, this quilt I have managed to pick out all the fabrics and even cut the fabric and started the piecing on my own. I am not sure if she will be down this weekend to visit, but I know she will be here on Sunday the 7th (it is her Daddy's birthday dinner). I can't wait for her to see it. It is actually a pattern for a Pansy Wallhanging but I am going to make it into a quilt for our guest bedroom which is decorated in pansies and all kinds of purple. :-) It isn't blue and white, but it is purple and white. Yum. I have already decided that my next quilt will be an American flag, of course done in red, white and BLUE!! My sewing machine is an old Singer (probably at least 25 years old), but I love it. I am starting to look for a newer machine because the feed dogs on this machine do not drop and my daughter and I bought a HandiQuilter and I would love to have a new machine to do my own machine quilting. I have a very small stash, but I am of course working on increasing it. Ok, that is the quilting info.

Kate said to tell you a few non-quilting things too, lol. I have been married to a wonderful man for a long time (will be 30 years in December). We have three wonderful kids -- two daughters with a son in the middle. Oldest DD is married and an elementary teacher. DS is also married and owns his own business (DH just retired the end of July and is now working for our son -- told him the signs on the side of the business trucks were going to have to say George and Dad instead of George and Sons, lol) and our youngest DD works at a university for three academic deans. So, it is just DH and the furbabies here at home now -- and do we have furbabies -- we have one dog and twelve cats/kittens -- all outside -- so I don't have to worry about quilt inspections or stitching their fur into my cross stitch, lol. Also I am married to an absolute chocoholic so I let him have most of the chocolate, but right now I am hooked on the Klondike Reduced Fat bars -- yum.

After working 28 years at Indiana University (any others from Indiana here??) I quit my job in March and am staying home right now and loving it. I may go back to work some day but I am trying real hard not to.

I marked all the post as read when I subscribed last night (boy, you guys are a chatty bunch) :-) and was surprised to hop in here this morning and see a welcome already. What a great feeling. Hope you have a wonderful quilty day.

Love in Stitches,

Coleen (oh yes, also a cross stitcher over at RCTN but mostly lurk there)

PS: Sorry this got so long, I am not usually this chatty

You do exist! They said if we clapped our hands and said, "I believe there is a Coleen" 3x, you'd show up and it worked!

So, you say you don't like blue, huh? :D Well, if you ever make a quilt that does not have blue in it and decide it just isn't for you, you just ask for my snail addy. The others will tell you how giving I am on that account.

Tain't fair! I have coupons for the Klondike Reduced fat ice cream bars and WalMart didn't have them. So, I compromised and bought Skinny Cows and stuck my coupons back in my pocket!

Thanks. Yes, blue and purple are my two favorite color -- was it so evident??? And yellow is my least favorite, so I just had to make a trip to "that store" this week to get some yellow for the middle of the pansies and the sashing. Of course, I also got three more dark purples for the dark part of the pansies, lol.

Kind of like Dorothy in Oz wanting to go home to Kansas??? LOL.

Is it so obvious that I love blue??? I have redone two of our bedrooms after the kids moved out -- our son's bedroom is now the Pansy Room and is used as the guest room. The bottom part of the walls are wallpapered in a purple and white plaid (Laura Ashley I think) and then there is a pansy border about 4" wide and then the top is painted a wonderful purple. Also had purple colored carpet installed. Guess that guarantees that DS will probably never want to move back home. Then the girl's bedroom is now my craft/stash room and I did it in green (which was a complete shock to my family because green is not one of my favorite colors). One wall is painted a dark green (the one across from the door) and the other three are a lighter green and it also has green carpeting. Next is our master bedroom and I am thinking of doing it in jewel tones -- rich blues (of course), burgundy and greens. But that is a bit down the road.

LOL, I had heard someone mention that you were known to BEG for quilts, lol. I will keep you in mind for any that I don't keep.

There you are, hello!!! I think I will pass on the chocolate, but I would love a cup of tea.

Well, if you can't, you can come to visit and we will send you home with lots of boxes.

Already finding my self very chatty tonight, when I really should get off here and get a few blocks sewn on the Pansy Quilt.

Love in Stitches,

Coleen (who is really just killing time until DH gets home from the golf course so I can heat up his dinner for him)

Sorry to jump in late here, but I remember you from RCTN, too, Coleen! Welcome to our much friendlier group! So glad you've joined us. I gave up reading RCTN long ago. You'll soon learn that everyone here loves to help out new quilters, so don't hesitate to ask any questions you may have. You'll get answers quickly, and we love to dance for finished projects!

Oh, yes. I had a short series of dates with a young man studying geology. He was dumb as a box of rocks, and about as interesting. Cute, tho.

Hello!!! Yes, I only lurk on RCTN now and only because I have the Love in Stitches Stash and I lurk in case there is a need for a stash package. And yes, there are still the same few people who always seem to keep things stirred up. Argh.
