Coooool!
Nope - you're not wrong, Pam. If there's one thing you shouldn't scrimp on it's ventilation. Your lungs will actually hurt if you don't get proper ventilation. Trust me - this has happened to me. You need to have air coming in and air going out, and the air going out should be right above or behind the torch. If you have a fan in the window behind the torch pulling air out, this is generally okay, as long as the fan is powerful, and as long as you have a door open somewhere letting fresh air in. It's not just the fumes from whatever gas you're using that's harmful - it's also the residue coming from the glass and any metal you're using. A lot of soft glass has metal in it, so you need protection from that. I just hate to see anyone taking chances when it's so easy to protect yourself. Anyway - off my soap box now. :)
Okay - not that I have just posted a huge long response, I need to quickly amend my post - ventilation is not as big a deal when using MAPP gas and a Hot Head. It's still important, but the MAPP gas, I hear, does not give off much in the way of fumes. If you're on anything that uses propane, you NEED good ventilation.
Thanks Kandice, once again you have cleared up some of my confusion! I'm glad Kathy doesn't really have to worry about it so much. Me - I'm still waiting impatiently for an HVAC specialist to call me back and get going on this so I can start making some pretty beads!
:) Pam
:-O I've got to pass that on!!!!!!!!!!

Tee hee. Well maybe the big strapping 21 year old boater boy will help me ;)
He's supposed to be in Asheville Thursday for some other stuff.
Well that brings us to another dilemma of mine.
The house I'm in right now is a rental and I love it. It's very cute, in a great section of town, reasonable rent. I keep toying with the idea of looking for a house with some land then I can have a studio however I need it and want it. But that's also a ton of work, and means moving again.
This is why I'm in no hurry to upgrade torches. Since it's not my house I won't be able to do much in the way of adding ventilation etc. So I'll play on my Hothead until I can't stand it anymore.
tee hee - I think RCB may be almost as addictive as beads!!!!
vj found this in rec.crafts.beads, from "KDK" :
]hide the beads

yeah that would defeat one of the reason's I'm coming out there. Maybe display the beads????
Then you're getting ready for tons of fun! Just don't over do it, you want to enjoy there company and get out and about.
Ayup!!
You know, Sooz, laughing only encourages me!
Congratulations!
I'm no expert, but it seems that a hot head would create more carbon monoxide than any fuel with an oxidizer. It seem the presence of highly concentrated oxygen would allow for a more complete burn. And MAPP gas has propane as a component, does it not?
Ladies--please do me a favor and get a box of Emergen-C's. Lovely vitamins and minerals, keeps you energised and going strong. EACH of you take one packet at breakfast. And another in the afternoon when you start to flag!! I take them daily, but two or more when doing something requiring extra effort. Sarajane

I am absolutely the worlds worst at taking vitamins. I hate the taste and all the pills. So even if I had good intentions it wouldn't get done.
Sarajane -- personally, i would like it if you would tell me what to do and what to eat, daily. I like everything about you. Wouldn't mind emulating you for a while.

Me too Starlia--that's precisely why these are SO COOL. No pills, its a fizzy powder you pour in water, juice or soda. Its the vit. and mineral equivalent of several honkin' big pills, but tastes lemony...or cranberry, or tangerine, or strawberry----many flavors available. Put it in a soda slowly, as the fizz is more pronounced with carbonation. Sarajane
